Forums - Sales - Can the Console War get closure?

There is no such thing as a console war, nor is there any such thing as a console "generation".

The PS2 is still a viable contender, because it still moves software, and the userbase still grows... yet no one considers it the "winner" of any console war -- despite the fact that its substantial userbase has basically shaped the current "battlefield"... many PS2 owners have *still* not "upgraded" -- the PS2 thrives primarily on used software.

My local GameStop, by the way, claims they are dumping used PS2 software after the year is up -- selling all their remaining used PS2 inventory to some online retailer. Interesting times ahead...

What do you suppose will happen to console sales, after all-but-online used retail for the PS2 vanishes?

OMG!!!!! NO WAYS DUDE!!!

Yeah, and there's no such thing as the four seasons, time, days of the week, birthdays, or anything that can be remotely used as a yardstick based on a relative set of guidelines in order for human beings to analyze the phenomenon. IN FACT, E = mc^2 is just a nice arrangement and F = ma looks pretty too.

Oh, and pi isn't equall to 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288…. IT'S ALL BOGUS I TELL YOU.

^^ a bit harsh?

People seem to misunderstand what the question was. The 360 sold about 5m prior to the PS3 and Wii being released on the market. So..

If PS3 closed the gap to 4m and the Generation ended. Would fanboys agree that;
A) 360 got second place because of more total sales than PS3
B) PS3 got second place because it closed the gap and more from what the 360 sold its first year solo on the market.

..or would it be;
C) End of the world as we know it since they would argue their cause (A or B) til they'd drop dead.

Well, since MS didn't force sony to release a year after them so I would say first year sales should still count, therefore A.

However, these are teh interwebz, and I fear that C would be the inevitable outcome.

The PS3 is the clear loser of this console war even if they would somehow end up in second place, simply due to all the money and mindshare Sony lost this generation.

What would that say about the console which manage to finish behind it?

I would like to ask for world peace as well...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

The big three are corporations and the goal of corporations is to deliver a profit to their shareholders. Not to win some abstract concept called a "console war" that serves as an amusing bread and circus. There really is no real way to win a console war. It's all in the mind of fanboys. If Wii finishes 1st in LTD sales, did they win? What if Wii started to fizzle out but still ended up 1st in LTD. Are they still a winner then? It's all just a concept in our heads. Right now Nintendo is profitting the most from video games so Nintendo has performed the most successfully thus far. Sony and Microsoft are still trying to recover their losses from all the investments they have been making. The big question is whether Sony and Microsoft's loss leader strategies are going to pay off financially for them in the future. After all making money is the reason why they got into the game industry right?

If you've ever been rich and powerful then you'd know:

POWER > MONEY

THEY DO CARE ABOUT WINNING.

And guys like Shigsy SURE AS HELL care about giving his fans a good experience.

Damn straight.

*smug*

Not until they stop making the PS2.

 Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.
