Forums - Microsoft - Are the sales figures for the Xbox 360 Accurate?

Like so many of you out there, I have experienced the RROD.  This hasnt happen once or twice but five times.  I have sent the faulty ones back twice and exchanged two faulty ones for a lower priced new one.  This means I am now on my 6th Xbox.

I have an Xbox upstairs and one down.  Which with such a high failure rate is a nightmare.

So taking this into account and knowing that many of you will be like me and cant wait for the repair procedure, how many Xboxs are actually out there.

It would be interesting to know.

i dunno

This only holds weight if you can explain where the old 360's go. Do they go in the garbage? Unlikely. Do they get sold in as-is condition? Much more likely. Do these as-is consoles get fixed and restocked as refurbished consoles, or some other method of getting them to work again and re-sold? Now we're getting somewhere.

Your 4 other RROD consoles are probably currently sitting in someone else's living room getting used, becomming part of the install base.

someone I know has 2 broken xbox 360s at his home, theyre out of warranty.. he has 1 currently still working.. so I think this OP is making a good point. however I think sales data is pretty accurate

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

I know a few people who bought another xbox 360 instead of waiting for the repair process and I know someone who bought another Xbox 360 cas his RROD 4 times and a new chip or something like that was released that was supposed to have fixed this issue, but it didn't because his still RROD again.

I also had 4 different PS2. 1 that was bought for me and my brother but we couldn't share without fighting so I bought a new 1 for myself, the Slim version when it launched and another slim when someone robbed my house and stole my first one.

So yeah the sales are still accurate because they are sales made. The 360 may not have the same install base though but that doesn't matter because we will never know how much really

What did your two friends do with their old 360s?

So, if there are only 20-25 million 360 on the market...why is it totally outselling the PS3 in software on most games? If this is the case, developers and publishers need to re-evaluate why almost every game wouldn't be on the 360.

This sounds very much like a poorly disguised, "the 360 breaks all the time" thread to me. I'm out!

What did your two friends do with their old 360s?

I'm not sure mate. I think they just left them in a corner somewhere.

That's nice to know. Sorry if I don't feel sympathy for two people unaware that a broken 360 is worth actual money and/or can be fixed. Seems like common sense to me. Maybe the problem with the 360 fanbase and this number discrepancy is just that they need to attract more intelligent customers.

i think the OP is about right with 25million xbox 360 owners, so many people re-buy
and with a 25mil install base the software would still be high lol
