Forums - Sales - Predict Wii sales for price cut week for the 3 regions

They need Sony's marketing team. How brilliant is the phrase "It only does everything".

On topic, I think we'll see something like this:

America - ~150k
Japan - ~50k
Others - ~150k
Worldwide - ~350k

If they have a new marketing campaign with a sweet slogan like "it only does everything" then it will sell MORE.

It sounds dubious coming from those who were absolutely convinced Nintendo could do no wrong this generation. Suddenly, now they're making big mistakes?

I'm more inclined to believe that Nintendo knows they will move a lot more consoles at $199, and that a price drop is also the mostly likely means by which they will hit their sales projections for the year.

Personally, I think it's a great move which may well be perfectly timed for the upcoming holiday season. And for the record, I thought it was definitely necessary contrary to popular belief.

People were convinced Nintendo was doing right when Nintendo's actions seemed to be following Blue Ocean and Disruption strategies, but the price cut is a red ocean action which is why people feel its wrong.

Hard to tell if you're being sarcastic or not

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

There is no magical product that sells for its original asking price throughout its entire production run unless said production run is genuinely limited (produced in numbers below consumer demand).

This is where strategy theories have to yield and adapt to changes in market conditions.

Either way, it was bound to happen at some point. It was sheer fantasy to have thought that the Wii would be selling for $249 after ten years, or however long Nintendo continues to produce them.

Yes a little sarcasm. But seriously, I'm hoping to see some strong marketing from them so less-informed people know about the cut.

They just need to add the "Now only $199" tag at the end of every commercial.

Selling price isn't the primary reason the Wii will sell, but the tag line should inform all those who were waiting for a price drop (since it's been almost 3 years) who thought that it was just around the corner, or the consumers who don't pay more than $200 for a game console, that now is the time to buy a Wii.

Others --- 165k
Japan --- 55k

Wii NA: 140K

Slaughterhouse Is The Sh*t  .... NOW ........ B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Still almost 2 weeks to know it and 4-5 days to know what happened the week just ended: with Wii's cut announced in the middle of it and ODST released during it too, week ending 26th, just before the cut, is one of the only two, together with Forza 3 launch one, XB360 can hope to exceed WW Wii sales. It doesn't happen since Halo 3 launch, IIRC.
