They should just buy Bioware from EA. Should have bought Bioware from the beginning. They were a second party for almost a decade.

I agree. And bioware made some of Microsofts best and biggest exclusives. I can't believe they let them go to EA. Oh well, EA will get them multiplat soon, which means more Bioware love for more people which is great. I love those guys. We also might not have gotten The Old Republic if things hadn't had gone the way they did. So all has worked out great.

That's a shame really. Microsoft could really use a nice chunk of good exclusive franchises and buying EA would have given them many awesome ones. Like Dante's Inferno, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Road Rash, Madden and so on. Sure it would hurt Sony and Nintendo but what buyout doesn't? Sony and Nintendo both have a huge number of great exclusive franchises. Microsoft would just be evening out the playing field a bit more.

That is NOT a shame.

This is excellent for EA, if MS bought them, their profit would be cut in half... Hello, all the EA multiplats out there?

That would be MS's baby to deal with from that point.

Exactly! EA wouldn't have to worry anymore they would be a part of Microsoft. All those multiplatforms would no longer need to sell as much if they were exclusive either. Plus if EA games bacame Microsoft's babies than those that are big fans of EA games would likely end up buying a X360 and thus more sales. As for sport titles as long as Madden and other titles were not exclusively licensed anymore than that would allow 2K Sports to make multiplatform sports titles and Sony for the PS3. This would not mark the death of the Wii nor PS3 nor would this end up beign a monopoly. There are plenty of other major franchises not owned by EA and sport contracts and would likely no longer be exclusive. As for movie based games those would probably stay multi until the contracts were up.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

to me....this sounds like a comfirmation

Stocks don't jump like that unless someone knows something..

Theres more to the story..

One might think if people get word early, then EA stocks go higher, causing MS to spend more on the company..

I don't see why you are trying to talk wisdom, Sega.

Wisdom... lmfao.. there is no wisdom in my replies, just common sense..

Please. Your replies aren't fanbot rants - they tend to be well-thought out and filled with truth.

wow.. thanks bro, at least someone notices..

Very true, and why you we're one of the first on my Friends list :) keep it up with the common sense,

Microsoft says EA purchase rumor is false

Electronic Arts stock jumped 4 percent Wednesday amid talk that Microsoft might be interested in buying the major video-game publisher.

"There's talk that Microsoft might be interested in acquiring Electronic Arts. It's unsubstantiated chatter, but it's out there," Frederic Ruffy, options strategist at WhatsTrading.com in New York, told Reuters. The news agency also reported that a London-based trader has heard similar talk in Europe.

However, Microsoft spokesman David Dennis dispelled the rumor.

"There is no truth to this rumor," he said in an e-mail to seattlepi.com, "we have no plans to purchase EA."

Well there you have it, that rumor may now R.I.P.

Thoughts?

I’m sure there was some fire to this smoke of a story…especially to have analysts commenting on it.  The current market value of EA is so low, it’s very possible the rumor could  be true, but I would have to wonder how M$ would be able to untangle all the commitments of EA to produce multi-platform games.  EA sports games are some of the biggest titles annually, and they get a lot of revenue off Playstation and Nintendo…What I think is more likely a situation is that M$ might buy huge chunks of EA…such as Bioware and others, and effectively turn Electronic Arts into Electronic Sports.  Those games are HUGE money makers, and If I was trying to downsize, I would cut out things that don’t make money…and keep the high profit margin ones.  Bioware makes money, but you’d have to offer a sacrificial lamb for M$ to absorb all of your debt.

I was hoping for this rumour to be true. All future EA games would become Microsoft exclusive titles and that would guarantee the XBox 360 holds onto second place in console wars. Now it is not true the door is still open for a PS3 comeback.

I'm telling you man, your analysis and posting has really impressed me of late.

Thanks, now i will have to think of something partisan to say...lol....this rumor just seems to be odd, and hard to be totally a "rumor."  Nintendo was calling a price cut on the Wii a false rumor as well, so The wording in the statement by M$ ust struck me as odd...We have to plans to purhcase EA...hmmm...what about parts of EA...Bioware, Valve, etc... are disproportional sellers on the PC and 360 platforms...M$ driven.  It makes sense, and take Valve for example...they wouldn't miss a beat.  Bioware...same as well, and  M$ really needs some top flight developers to get EDD more profitable.  Actually...I think M$ is eyeing the potential of SW:TOR...WoW has been amazing!

Microsoft buying EA would mean the end of the PS3, the Wii might live on since they have their own franchises but all the sports games would mean people are forced to get a 360. Ofcourse Pro evolution soccer would be very happy since those left behind on PS3 will finally buy their game again. This rumor was just to bit to be true, it's like the USA buying Mexico it's unthinkable!

That would be absolutely devastating to Sony... to lose the Madden brand though a PC version of Madden would finally come back...that's just way to many franchises... if any big company was bought it would behoove Microsoft to grab Ubisoft who holds many near and dear franchises of the Xbox community not to mention the right to Tom Clancy's works.
