So, the weekly sales we get are just rough estimates made by ioi. Does VGChartz adjust when the real, correct numbers are released? (I think by NPD?)

yes, but only for NA (NPD) and may be for Japan (Media create).
For PAL, they are adjusted but only ioi know how exactly.
Time to Work !
correct... numbers? is there even such a thing when it comes to console sales? They are all approximations, but i believe the numbers are in fact, as you said, adjusted every now and then as more information comes in (including NPD, Media Create, Famitsu, etc) ... thats my understanding anyways
ugh, i wouldn't call them estimates, they are extrapolations done through lots of research. Now that sounds better
I think VGChartz is as close as we can get. I'd trust these numbers over any corporate press releases any day.

@tabsina Well I was under the impresison that all publicly traded companies needed to release their sales figures. If thats not the case, then I was just asking if the numbers were adjusted after more accurate numbers were released.
@Neos lol I realize that. Still estimates though. Educated estimates.

For the European numbers, they're corrected whenever facts emerge which prove there was an error. However, errors are few and not that significant, and there have been many news articles also proving that vgchartz's numbers for some European countries are quite accurate.
All things considered, vgchartz's numbers are already very good, and getting better every day.
PS: I should mention that there has been undertracking and overtracking for all the consoles, which means that so far, no bias at all has been seen in the numbers.

Nintendo, Microsoft and since this new fiscal year, Sony, all release the numbers of consoles they have sold to retailers and they are released every quarter. When they release their financial statements for the second fiscal quarter (July through September) the life-to-date retail sales figures should be a decent number ahead of what ioi has for the end of september.
with Wii i would expect maybe 400-500k above due to them selling so quickly.
with 360 i am not sure, MS might have shipped a lot of extra consoles to retailers for Halo, thus meaning maybe 1 million plus over what ioi has....but if they didn't ship any extra than normal (ignoring haloSKU) then i would think due to the extra hardware sold through September there might only be a 600k-800k gap
PS3 might be anywhere from 500k to 1M over.....i expect they probably sold (retail) about 1-1.5 million more than last quarter...which was only 0.71M
and yes they are estimates, but they are not pulled out of no where, they are calculated in the same way that NPD/Media Create/GfK/Chart Track etc are, with the exception that those companies have more sources for referance (NPD has over 60% of American retail tracked, and extrapolates to make estimates for the rest.....not sure about iois percentage, but i think it's probably only 10-20%)

I'm not sure what you mean by correct numbers. Sales to the consumer do not have a universal tracking system, nobody knows 'correct numbers'. Sales to retailers are tracked and the numbers are released , but thats not what this site tracks.
