Forums - Nintendo - DK: Barrel Blast sells 11800 in first week! Industry pundits awestruck!

I was gonna make some cheesy pun about getting the monkey off their back but I wont bother

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

Game is crap and only interesting for the first 3 hours.

Ever since Rare left its been going downhill with the Donkey Kong franchise. They're killing the monkey.

I guess you didnt play DK Jungle Beat then?

For me one of the best games of last generation, on any console.

Mario vs DK was ok on the GBA/DS too, athough king of swing seems pretty poor.

I enjoyed Konga and Jumgle Beat. I bet this game would have been much better on the ol bongos though. It also pissed me off when they took out the bongo function in Odama. I was very hyped about Odama, but never ended up getting it. Maybe one day. :)

when was the last DK game that was good?....oh nine0nine says jungle beat is good, though i was never convinced to buy it. (perephrials that work for less than 5 games are not worth it to me)

I would say Jungle beat was the last truly good game, i would only class the other ones as 'ok'
If you haven't played Jungle Beat i would strongly advise giving it a go, i wasnt really expecting it to work but it does and brilliantly. It should be reasonably cheap second hand.

This was from fairly recent (2nd party?) developer called Poan, who I think only previously developed DK King of Swing.

They're currently developing Eternal Chronicle, that recently revealed Strat-RPG for DS. Meh.

I want them to make another game like dk64 :( Dam Nintendo selling rare.

We all expected this in all honesty Nintendo made the exact same mistake they did last time. They tried to use the Bongo's then rather then fixing it they pretty much gave the game drum style controls on a Wiimote instead.

The game could have been decent but the drum controls suck for actual games. They worked well in Konga series but other then that should not be used. Nintendo hasn't learnt from their mistake (DK:JB) and just continue to repeate the mistake again and again. I mean DK:JB only sold 30,000 copies in its openning week. What made Nintendo think a gimicky spin-off could do any better.
Nintendo needs to revitalize the franchise fast!

But I do agree in all a bad game is a bad game regardless of publisher. Its not Nintendo's fault that they just happen to make superior software (2nd party titles excempt). Nintendo has proven in the past to give us some of the best gaming experiances in our lives. Nintendo's ability to conquer the Wii's market and reep most of the benefits is because third parties just aren't putting enough effort into the Wii.

If third parties want to improve sales they will need to improve their products. No more ports from PlayStation2 , no more rushed and cheaply developed games. Third parties need to step up and invest in Wii develope a graphics engine and spend a sizable amount on developing their titles rather then alotting a cheap low budget.

A Wii game needs to be made with the same respect and effort that goes into a PS3/360 game or third parties will continue to suffer. But then again even third party crap like RedSteel sold well so I don't know some publishers have managed to make a crap load off of complete crap.

But long story short you reep what you sow. If a developer cheaps out on their Wii games then they won't make much profit either cause those cheap ports and rushed garbage won't sell!

What we have here (besides some people not able to take sarcasm) is a game that should NOT have been ported to the Wii.

Remember, this was supposed to be one of the last GC releases. They moved it over and tried to keep the bongo play mechanic.

I wanted this game for my GC (I am a sucker for stanger controllers -- I liked the Intellivision after all). But I won't be buying it til I can find a blowout reduction for the Wii. When Nintendo Power gave a DK game a 6.5 rating -- and that's the highest it got -- you know it is not very good.

Again proof that people are sometimes smarter than you realize. (Of course, when it is $20, they will get a lot dumber).
