Forums - Nintendo - DK: Barrel Blast sells 11800 in first week! Industry pundits awestruck!

Nintendo commands entirety of Wii software market!  Third-party developers cancel numerous projects in wake of shocking figures!

In all seriousness, this should further trivialize the theory that only first-party games sell well, or that third-party games have no chance at competing.  Good software sells, bad software fails (for the most part, anway).

Euhm okay.

It looked like a shitty game from the start. Its not a matter of being a 3rd party. I was just a bad looking game. If Ninty developed it, and it looked just as bad, im sure people still wouldnt buy it. The reason why 3rd party games arent being bought is because they usually dont take the time to make a great game.

@loadedstatement:

Yes, that was exactly my point. Also, the game IS Nintendo-published, you know. Again, kind of the point.

So... what is your point? A crap game, with a big brand - even published by Ninty - won't sell?

I'm a little surprised they didn't turn this into a Mario Kart style racer (pure racer), with similar controls.

Either way, its the last remnants of GC development finally dying off (along with BWii, Super Paper Mario, etc..).

@shams:

Right. There seems to have been a lot of talk regarding third-party software failing and Nintendo themselves hoarding all the Wii-related profits. This just further cements the concept that a bad game is far less likely to sell well, first- or third-party status notwithstanding.

Surely Even Nintendo seen this one coming - they shelve project hammer and this drivel makes it to be released. Wii doesn't have enough driving style games imo and I loved Excite Trucks, Sonic was okay also so for me if they added this control method to it with a couple of bongo style challenges in between levels with the same gameplay as Bongo Beat (or whatever it was called) it would have sold better.

Good that even Nintendo are learning they cant for people off with shovelware

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

As of Third Party software on the Wii, let Resident Evil 4 be an example to everyone how it should be done, the quicker it comes a million seller the better imo and I predict they'll have plenty more success on the Wii.

Next year companies like Capcom will slowly raise the standards and drag others up around them, cheers just sent off for the Tick boxed DVD set as i've been hinting for years to get it as a birthday christmas present but it's never happened. Have to buy it myself I suppose

Game is crap and only interesting for the first 3 hours.

Ever since Rare left its been going downhill with the Donkey Kong franchise. They're killing the monkey.
