Forums - Sony - PS3 40Gb, On your list?

Look, here's the thing about the 40 gig...

Most of the people who whine about it probably want a PS3, but would likely have not bought it for quite a while. If you truly want a PS3, and you truly want to play the games on it, and you have the initiative, something as menial as loss of PS2 backwards compatibility will not deter you.

It's not menial though.  The 40 gig actually will be more expensive if i have to replace my PS2 twice in my lifetime.  Which is a fairly likely chance.  Since i've already replaced my PS2 twice.

Also, i'm the type of person that will be playing my PS2 till I either go blind, die, lose an arm... you get the point.  I'm someone who plays videogames.  I could probably buy a second PS3 with the money i'd "save" in not rebuying the PS2 6-7 more times over my lifetime.  Hopefully they keep a backwords compatable model out there, I tend to buy systems whenever I have a software drought, considering i just got 6 new games, and there are about 6-10 more Wii games I want that are coming out before X-mas or  are already out I wouldn't have a reason to buy one anyway.

If the 40 gig did have BC i would of just got one with the money i got for X-mas or ask my parents for it, as they still like to spend ridiculious amounts of money at X-mas on me even though I'm well past that age... having graduated college and all.  Instead i'll just ask for a butload of PS2 games.  (No Wii games because my girlfriend wants to buy me wii games and we try to "surprise" each other with gifts.  No gift lists, because the surprise is better and also just knowing someone knows exactly what to get you rules.)

Well its not a problem with me I have my 360 Elite and PS2 plugged in. And on my PS2 I'm currently playing FFXII, so with me getting a 40GB PS3 its no problem. I'm satsified if only some games will come out for the thing. I'm going to get it when FFXIII comes out though. Hopefully the 80GB is like $450 by that time.

'' Since i've already replaced my PS2 twice.''

Bad luck. Mine has worked fine since 2002 sommer. No a single problem and answer to topic is No. I am getting X360 this Crhistmas. PS3 maybe next sommer if i get job. At least next Crhristmas.

I really asking myself IF Sony will or not release another sku with BC on it.

If it is not the case then I may rush on the 60gb before it disappear ...

That's the sucker punch right there.

They're trying to get customers into this mentality that backwards compatibility is a commodity.

Looks like it's working on some...

From my understanding, replacing PS2 systems was quite common for many people ... The "Disc Read Error" had a similar presence and the red-ring of death except it ended up showing up (typically) after the Waranty period and Sony only addressed the issue after they lost a class action lawsuit. Beyond that the PS2 is getting pretty old and many of the components do not have that long of an expected life.

==> considering what I have seen in retailer, the good week number even with no advertising, it is working perfectly.

Seems like dirty pool to me.

Buy the good but overpriced versions now because the cheap sucktastic ones are going to be filling the shelves soon.

Whatever.
