Forums - Gaming - Best Buy interested in Gamestop

Sounds like both Best Buy and Toys R Us are geting in on the action. This could force Gamestop to lower their prices.

It would be great if Best Buy bought GameStop. Maybe we'd have some decent management running the business instead of this seemingly 'just start up' feel where they just hire people who don't care about their jobs and stores are run poorly.

I'm definitely not saying Best Buy is the perfect business structure either, but they definitely run their business better than GameStop, who has only 2 values: How much money can I make and how cheaply can I run the store? You lose business when half your games aren't even labeled correctly, in the wrong sections and your 'employees' care more about their cell phones than helping patrons check out.

Sounds to me like Best Buy is interested in selling used games and is envious of the market leader's profit margin and buy-back system. Here is hoping they don't throw away instructions.

Remember, Gamestop got to be market leader in used games by buying Funcoland and EB.

It seems like GameStop would be too strong for Best Buy to take on. Best Buy would have been hurt more by the recession than GameStop was (and GameStop's second-hand component probably benefited). It just seems like the wrong time for them to be pondering it.

Furthermore, digital distribution is looming large on the horizon. GameStop knows its coming, and they just want to grab as much money as they can while games are still tradeable.

If I owned a piece of GameStop I'd be very happy to sell. Brick and mortar game retail may never be larger than it is right now.
