Wii Price Cut Confirmed
Joshua Johnston 9/18/2009, 5:07pm Eastern Time

Following several days of scanned images indicating a Wii price cut, Nintendojo can now confirm that such a cut is indeed coming. Wii will be reduced to $199, effective Sunday, September 27th, and will likely include retailers nationwide. The confirmation was made during a retailer conference call today where a Nintendojo staffer was in attendance.

What do you think of the price cut? Feel free to vote in our official poll over on the Nintendojo forums.

I Still would not say this is 100% percent fact yet.

I'm really interested in seeing how the Wii's 1st pricecut would effect sales. Never did I think a PS3 pricecut could threaten the juggernaut that is the Wii to have a price drop itself.

Its looking more likley this is true, but weve only seen reports for the US, im hoping there not true in europe as im hopeing to trade mine in for a PSPGO, dont want it to lose value before then!

True Nintendo must still consider Sony and Microsoft threats despite what they say about not competing with them.

It's confirmed according to google new, but the source is that reatiler conference (where also Nintendojo cought the news). It seems that a "Nintendo man" confirmed it, but the real announcment will be made on 27th, just the day indicated by all the rumors...this is for America, for Europe we still have that "no price cut planned" of a week ago.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

funny thing is with this pricecut the PSP GO is now 50$ more then a Wii

This one was already posted.

But so far it went... Target, Wal-Mart, Italian GameStop (saying it was limited to 5000 sales), Nintendojo citing a retailer conference, then Best Buy. All with the same date. GameStop is the only one to mention a limit, Best Buy even put "after price cut" in their ad.

Well this is more confirmation then.

I strongly doubt this is in response directly to the PS3 price cut.  I'd take a very strong guess that it has to do with the 360 price cut, the PS3 price cut, the economy, the slowing sales, why the sky is blue, why my farts stink, and why my wife is a collosal bitch.

Thinking this is solely in response to the PS3 is pure ignorance.

So you foresaw a pricecut from the Wii? Let me get this straight, the 360 and Wii were still going to have a pricecut even if the PS3 didn't....interesting. That's some psychic ability you have there.
