Forums - Nintendo - Nintendojo : 27th SEP = Wii Price Drop Date (Retailer Conference confirms)

Does this mean Nintendo has ran out of good Wii series ideas?

Nintendo pretty much admitted that last year. Wii Music was the third and final 'big idea' from Miyamoto, and updates to Wii Sports and Wii Fit this year reinforce that idea.

I'm sure Nintendo will be cooking up some new ideas, but they aren't going to be ready anytime soon. They might even take long enough that Nintendo sits on them so they can drive sales of the Wii's successor.

If this is true, then i will say

Sony owns the console market,MS and Nitty both drop there console price to try and keep the sales above the much higher price PS3.

What? Did the GC own the market last generation?

The PS3 was forced to a price cut of 50%. Nintenodo is just (it seems) cutting the price after three year - the longest run for any console.

That's pretty sad.  Cause I believe with another Wii hit wouldn't need to(drop price). I'm guessing this means WSR didn't give the boost they expected.

@Stefan

Im not talking about last generation, this gen the Wii was gladly outselling a $400 PS3,But when the PS3 droped to $300,Nitty was FORCED to drop the price of the Wii,or else the PS3 would out sell it,Same for 360.

Wii would still outsell PS3, just not by as much.

The real reason for Nintendo's price cut is simple, they feel they won't meet projections unless they drop the price. Nintendo doesn't need to worry about a system over 30 million units behind.

No it's not true: the ps3 would have outsold it in Japan easily for some weeks (maybe for months) and Worldwide for 3-4 weeks, but then Wii would have taken the lead another time...the reasons for this price cut are others: first of all their prediction (for new bundles of SKUs they needed to cut the original SKU), but also the marketshare and the revenues...i think they would have cut the price even if Sony didn't, just beacuse Wii was still selling under 200k.

And about your statement of the industry following PS3, we can say the same thing about motion controls (Wii) or online (X360) or online stores for games (IPhone-Ipod)...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

probably true, Wii at 199 confirmed

I agree, but what you're writing about are Nintendo goals behind the cut, the reasons sales may have dropped (if the rumour is confirmed) enough to force N to an immediate cut are maybe the rumours about the cut themselves, without them we see that Wii is still able to outsell XB360, while PS3 is still a distant 3rd, despite the good sales after the cut and the likelyhood a decent average is kept after the initial rise fades away.

Rumours could make unbearable a sales flection that otherwise could be still bearable, without them most probably Nintendo could be able to delay the cut until Autumn 2010.

Yes, it does seem quite plausible now. When it is just random sites or just one retail chain saying something is going to happen, then it is sketchy. But with multiple sites and multiple retail chains saying the same thing, it seems to be the case.
