Forums - Nintendo - Nintendojo : 27th SEP = Wii Price Drop Date (Retailer Conference confirms)

Actually I dont believe Wii sales will rise much from a 50$ drop.. perhaps about a 20% raise (after the first few weeks of selling like 300%).. very few people I know are waiting for a Wii Price cut and I know VERY many people still willing to pay 250$ for a Wii if it got more Mario games (like galaxy, not GC, N64 or (S)NES ports

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

No this means that Nintendo has had the longest and most successful launch of a system and kept it selling well at its original price point longer than any other system SINCE THE DAWN OF TIME.

Most consoles are sold at $200 or less. That's the magical mass market price point. Most PS2s were sold at $200 and under. The Wii is the only system to sell 53 million while costing over $200. Even the almighty PS2 only cost more than $200 for 19 months. Wii has cost more than $200 for 35 months.

There is absolutely no way to twist this into bad news for Nintendo.

Then you know the wrong people, galaxy was low selling for a Mario game, and there are always a lot of people who will wait for a system to be cheaper

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

They say that a man of Nintendo confirmed it? Nintendo in strange! First they deny the two first rumors (Walmart and another that I don't remember), then about the Best Buy and Italian Gamestop rumors they say "we don't comment on rumors or speculation"...and now they (or one of them) are confirming it? And this doesn't come from kotaku which posted the previous rumors...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

If this is true, then i will say

Sony owns the console market,MS and Nitty both drop there console price to try and keep the sales above the much higher price PS3.

Well there are alot of people buying wii's, the price is barely a factor with the Wii (it mightve become a factor when PS3 price cut came in (aswell as 360s price cut) but that ws only a month before then.. in 1 month not many people will be giving the wii 2nd thoughts because of its price because the PS360 just dropped in price..

The Wii is not doomed.. not at its current price point or its new price point, but IMO a price cut would be a bad move due to not moving enough consoles compared to the less profit per wii

Yes there are a lot of people buying Wii's but even more who haven't yet, duh, on every supply and demand curve, demand is always greater when the price is lower, unless its perfectly inelastic

what is the total amount of systems sold last gen? 180mil? this gen has 109mil systems sold so obviously there still is alot of room for growth (I think the total systems sold this gen will be around 220mil.. and I think Wii's lifetime sales will be 90-110mil (so thats NOT exceeding the PS2)

I think you need to recheck your figures

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=America&cons2=PS2&reg2=America&cons3=PS2&reg3=America&weeks=148

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=Total+Other&cons2=PS2&reg2=Total+Other&cons3=PS2&reg3=Total+Other&weeks=148

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=Japan&cons2=PS2&reg2=Japan&cons3=PS2&reg3=Japan&weeks=146

Wii is overtracking the PS2 in all but Japan

Overall its overtracking the PS2 by a great deal

I think Arcade price drop is very likely -  they will go with  $169. It will be very interesting end of the year.
