Hmm, Guitar Hero Metallica is the best music game I've played. That said, crowding out competition leads to mediocrity, and though they do make some of the best games, Activision sure has turned into an "anti-gamer" corporation.

Harmonix made Guitar Hero 1 and 2 great. That's the reason why from Guitar Hero 3 on the franchise lost quality.

I can't stand the timing required on 1 and 2, and imo, Rock Band in general.

Guitar Hero manages to increase the difficulty by adding extra notes, but giving you a wider hit target, to allow heavy thrashing and cusomization of riff techniques. Rock Band doesn't. That is why, imo, the GUITAR sections on the Guitar Hero games from part III onward, will always have the best guitar related gameplay, despite music selection, layout, or interface.

It's just a much more lifelike system, that allows for fun during gameplay, while maintaining difficulty, by ramping up notecount and placement.

Harmonix, on the other hand, creates a more rhythm based game, strictly structured around timing, which is more attuned to drums or bass.

The difference is NOT subtle, and people who have played both games sould know their preferences. Mine is Guitar Hero.

Even the bands RB chooses(Beatles) have more rhythm based guitar play than the heavy thrashers that GH goes with(VHalen, Metalica). That is due to the nature in the differences of the game. They are in the same genre, but completely different in gameplay, on Guitar, at least.

Perhaps if the GH franchise would have innovated and made improvements that the fans were asking for that (oh, Rockband actually did), they would be selling better. Instead they just kept things the same and added new songs and few features. GH started becoming Madden, lol.

GH5 is a great game, but the Rockband replaced it in popularity and features a while ago. Suck it up and move on Activision.
