It isn't insane to celebrate it, though. I mean, it was a bad idea from the start, no material gains except to inordinantly antagonize Russia and fight against threats that aren't there (at least, not yet). We already have mobile missile interceptors stationed in various vessels in the Navy. It was supposed to be an ICBM shield, and the Russians certainly overreacted by us putting it in Poland, since they wouldn't need ICBMs to hit them anyway, but it was still a foolish idea from the outset
We don't gain anything, but we have gotten rid of a major sticking point, which is certainly cause for celebration. The long term benefits of potentially fostering better Russo-American relations (as long as neither country does anything to screw it up) is far greater than the benefits of defending Europe from nothing.
