Forums - General - The Missile Shield is shelved! Huzzah!

It isn't insane to celebrate it, though. I mean, it was a bad idea from the start, no material gains except to inordinantly antagonize Russia and fight against threats that aren't there (at least, not yet). We already have mobile missile interceptors stationed in various vessels in the Navy. It was supposed to be an ICBM shield, and the Russians certainly overreacted by us putting it in Poland, since they wouldn't need ICBMs to hit them anyway, but it was still a foolish idea from the outset

We don't gain anything, but we have gotten rid of a major sticking point, which is certainly cause for celebration. The long term benefits of potentially fostering better Russo-American relations (as long as neither country does anything to screw it up) is far greater than the benefits of defending Europe from nothing.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I feel sorry for the USA, obviously a lot of you still think you're fighting a war that ended nearly twenty years ago. Obama makes a move to offer an olive branch of peace to Russia and you guys pan him... Do you actually *want* another cold war or something?

This is just artificiality created paranoia.

I mean even if Russia through some moment of temporary (and unlikely) madness decided to attack eastern Europe or USA, they would be flattened instantly.

It was a solution to a threat that did not exist, to protect countries that did not ask for protection, it's sole purpose was to police eastern Europe... A bad idea from day one.

In every news article I've read on the internet about it today, half the reactions have been neo-cons replying in a quite frankly *low* manner that I wouldn't even expect from the sleaziest of politicians.

I know I'm going to get banned for this post as it has been done in anger, but do you know what, I don't care, I just had to say it.

If Russia attacked Eastern Europe, who would flatten them exactly?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Half world would, I mean come on, there were supposed to be nuclear weapons in Iraq and half the damn world went to war against them. Russia don't exactly have a lot of people on their side, it would be extremely stupid to make a random attack on eastern Europe. They are not a popular country.

However, we don't want war, we want peace. And I thinks it's disgusting that the second a 'liberal' takes the chance to offer the olive branch of peace to Russia and likely repair frayed relations and the neo-cons just come out with, quite frankly, sleazy attacks. Do these people not want peace with Russia or something. Obama has made a great gesture to Russia and if Russia act accordingly I think Obama would have made the world a slightly nicer place to live, but a small percentage of people want to make a bad issue out of something that the vast majority see as positive.

Agree with the whole post. I hate paranoic people who make stupid moves based on unrational fear.

I heard your account was to make fun of stupid people, and I really hope it is and not what you really think.

What's worrying is that I'm sure that this is not too far from the truth. I mean obviously the vast majority of Americans will always want peace with Russia, and this is the way to do it. But unfortunately a small minority still live in the shadow of the cold war and terrorism and react in an irrational way. I know your post is sarcastic, but it demonstrates a point.

It's better to build bridges than burn them.

The only thing you get from me is straight 100% unfiltered truth.

Ronald Reagen said that they were an evil empire so they are an evil empire.
