Schoolboy, 12, becomes girl

LONDON - A BRITISH schoolboy has returned from his holidays with a new name and a new look; he's now a girl.

According to UK media outlets the 12-year-old is in the process of undergoing surgery that could make him the world's youngest sex-change patient.

Turning up at school on the first day back from holidays, the child wore a long dress and hair in pigtails, reported The Sun newspaper.

Parents and children at the school were shocked by the transformation, telling the media that there had been no warning in advance of the child's new identity.

Teachers exacerbated the problem by holding an emergency assembly and informing the students to treat the former boy as a girl.

They also outed the child publicly saying: 'You may notice one pupil is not present in this assembly - that is because the pupil is now a girl.'

The Sun reported that angry parents said their children were confused and in tears and said the school should have told them in advance.

The child's parents have reportedly changed his name by deed poll and are supporting him with his hormone treatment.

They apparently thought that his disguise of clothing and long hair would stop him from being bullied but he was immediately recognised.

The Sun reported that the child had been telling his friends 'for years' that he yearned to be a girl.

Muchos respect for the kids parents in all this, they have to be the most understanding and supportive parents ever.

Isn't the kid still growing? How would that effect the size of the... uh, new parts? Would they just grow along with the rest of the body? You'd think they'd be fighting against the basic genetic build of the person in such a situation, but I have little idea how such things work.

Honestly, the entire concept of this sounds rather absurd.

"Mom? I want to be a girl."
"Alright! Let me call the doctor."

Nah, don't bother letting the kid grow and mature to see what happens. Instead whip out the scalpels for life altering surgery on the whim of a 12 year old.

And the best part is that they expected nobody to notice such drastic changes. Did the kid have no friends? Did they expect the kid's classmates to NOT notice that their old friend was suddenly MIA, nor that this new girl who appeared out of nowhere looks and sounds mysteriously like their old friend? If they think their 12 year old is old enough to make major decisions involving surgery, surely they would've thought other 12 year olds are smart enough to put two and two together?

12 is way too young to take a decision like this... I agree with the post above.

From what I've read most people know from a very young age if they were born the wrong sex and that the percentage of people happy with the operation is extremely high.

I wanted to be a girl when I was young.

I support this.

i support this but this is a very young age for that.

While 12 seems young, in this case I don't think it is. They seem to be old enough to make the decision themselves and because male puberty and hormones have yet to take hold and they can have injections for the hormones for the gender they want to be....you know, look less like a man in drag in later life.

Hmm, pie.

uhh, I think any age is too young to make a decision like this. This is way beyond natural in any sense of the word and rather weird and disturbing.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

It's not beyond natural in my sense of the word. Everything we do is natural since we're part of nature.
