Forums - Microsoft - What's up with all the BK: N&B hate?

I just started Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts today and after about an hour of playing the game, I think it's great! Why did lots of people trash this game? I suppose they just couldn't get over the fact that it's not a pure platformer like they thought it was going to be, but meh, everyone should really give this game a chance. It's got the humor of all the other Banjo games (though I think this one has more) and lots of references to them if you've played them. Definitely one of the most underrated 360 games if you ask me.

I enjoyed it. (enough to 100% it)

Most old fans of the series were disappointed that it was not a true platformer. The change didn't really bother me. I welcomed a new addition to the long dead series.

I think RARE may be working on another Banjo title but it will remain true to the old games this time around. There were lots of rumours about it floating around along with the Perfect Dark 2 rumours.

I only played the first BK but I can assure you I didn't play it for the humor in the least, so that wouldn't get me interested in BK3.

As for the people who talk bad about it, well, yeah... they wanted a platformer. 360 is desperately short of good ones, and BK is easily among the top tier of non-Nintendo platformers. Not catering to the franchise's established audience is sort of a kick in the groin.

That said, it is probably a good game, but many people simply won't give it a chance because it's not what they wanted. That's not wrong, though. At $60 if the core experience isn't what you're looking for it's not worth the investment. People who still gave it a try and didn't like it almost certainly felt ripped off, and anyone who feels like that is justified in telling people that they too may feel ripped off if they buy the game.  Many people who liked BK/BT for what they were are, after all, probably best off avoiding the game if they only want more of the same.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

It had the single worst world hub of any game I've ever played. Getting Jiggies was actually painful.

1: There are tons of different worlds, but all the worlds are just carbon copies of other levels with different challenges. What's the point of making giant levels if you only have 3 jiggies per level? (It'd be like having to go to another side of the castle to get the other half of the stars for each level in Mario 64)
2: Hey, you got jiggies? FUCK YOU. Load them into the shitty mobile and cart them to the middle of the map. Oh, it's a game about designing custom vehicles? Sorry, you get a shitty one that you can't upgrade, and it handles like a dead walrus. Have fun losing your jiggies in the lake, and having to start over.

I really enjoyed playing this game, but only in the tiny, barely developed skirmish/freeplay 2 player mode. Playing the actual game is painful.

Showdown Town was actually offensive to me as a person.

Edit: Oh, and all the missions in levels sucked.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Acolyte of Disruption

I played that game and enjoyed it. It was a pretty game but not an easy one...

I loved the game. I got everything besides the last trophy and the multiplayer achievements. I think that most of the hate came from Nintendo fans that are just jealous of the fact that the game is not on their system. This is easily my second favorite game this gen, and since it was only $40 at launch and came with a free voucher for Banjo-Kazooie off of XBLA it was a no brainer

Judging by Showertea's collection he only owns a Wii. So my original post still stands.

Just admit it you don't have the game and you have never played it

Showertea doesn't know what hes talking about. Hub is the best part of the game... Missions I thought could have been more interesting.

I wouldn't list it as a great game becuase its a sandbox game. I don't like sandbox games... I am a busy man with only an hour or 2 of free time to play every day. I don't like games that let me jerk off around without purpose.

Must have order!

I never played the retail game, but i played the demo, and i remember loving it, but at the time, too many other "must buys" were out, and since it wasn't a traditional platformer, then i passed on it. If the demo was anything to go by though, i feel it's a sleeper hit.

So I'm a good ways in now and I can say that I love this game! Something that annoyed me with the other ones was that you always had to go through the enormous hub world back to where you left off which took a few minutes. This one provides plenty of warps everywhere in the hub world to travel. Also, the fact that you can upload pictures to banjokazooie.com is cool. I've been looking at some of them now, and it's interesting to see what people come up with. So yeah, this is the first Rare game I've played for hours since they were acquired by Microsoft, so I don't get why people think they've had no good games. I like parts of this one better than the original. Anyway, after this I'm going to have to tackle Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise! Anyone played through that one yet?
