Forums - Sony - Tekken 6 uses the new Octave Physics Engine

Cool stuff...

Ya know, I never managed to look past how shitty the water looked to realize how interactive it is. Of course, it's hard to tell how interactive something is from screenshots, and that's about all I've seen thus far.  I hope they'll improve the reflections and stuff by the time it releases.

They must have needed to utilize an entirely new physics engine to successfully incorporate the morbidly obese new character...

I feel sorry for Bob. Who would actually want to play with him for any reason other than to laugh at his fatness?  He has to be the most uncool character ever.

oh...wow...the water splashes...cool. I'm sure that from a technical standpoint that's cool and all, and kudos to whoever for making it. But I don't see how that adds to the game or makes it better than previous tekken games. Seems like physics just for the hell of it.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

@The_vagabond7:

Well, the characters shown don't have the necessary body mass to effectively displace the water. Wait until Bob is shown on the level, demonstrating his newly implemented "Kamikaze Tidal Wave" attack. THEN you will understand the relevance..

@makingmusic:

Agreed. I can't imagine what kind of audience he appeals to. Sure, we had fat characters in other fighting games, but they were cool bastards like Earthquake and E. Honda...

@The_Vag: It creates an added sense of realness and immersion to the game.

Physics just for the hell of it? That's like saying what's the point of making UT3 look better than UT2K4. Just improve the gameplay, who cares about anything else.

Wow, what a waste. So many games would benefit from this tech - Tekken is not one of them. Doesn't even look that cool.

Ahh well - guess they needed to spend their dev budget on something :)

That engine definitely looks cool.

The thing about Bob is ... he used to be small and agile, but he found out he couldn't beat anyone who weighed more than him. So ... logically ... he put on massive amounts of weight so he could beat ... well ... everyone.

Silly Bob :)

I'm sure it cost them so much to add this engine to 2-3 levels.
