Forums - Nintendo - Core Gamers: Wii vs Gamecube

Bleh, ok no you got me going.

I'm not referring to backward compatability when saying GC>N64>etc.etc. The point is that each generation has a natural advantage over previous generations, whether that be backward compatibility or not. That's not the issue here.

We are looking at the QUALITY OF SUPPORT Nintendo is giving to it's core gamers.

core gamer == 'the type of guy who spends time here' (i.e. us)

We live for Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc. (or MGS, FF, GT etc. depending what platform), so Nintendo giving high quality games of that calibur certainly denotes a certain 'metric quality' or 'particular experience'. How could you say the term 'core gamers' doesn't make sense? You live in an absolutely relative world then. God, we're gonna have whole different arguments soon.

Backing up again, the simple point of discussion is Nintendo's output of games that satisfies freaks like me. No one can say that Wii automatically wins because it plays GC games because it didn't exist when my Purple Lunchbox was wowing the hell out of me with Prime...

Mmm...The smell of purple plastic...Those curvy sides with that l.a.r.g.e green A-button....

Yes, but I'm enjoying the Wii more than I did the Gamecube. What of that?

And I for one am not sure whether they've improved (THUS FAR) over their GC efforts in this regard. THAT"S THE POINT

Is that because of Wii sports, or Zelda/Mario/Metroid?

But you're right. AS A WHOLE there's a lot more to experience on the Wii than the GC. I even saw a Wii in an old-age home the other day, so point taken.

Wii Sports is definitely a component of it, actually. I intend to buy Wii Sports Resort very soon.

No I don't think every library is better than the library before it.

I'd go Wii > SNES > NES > N64 > GC.

And if you include handhelds, DS... whoa.

I hate to admit it but I love Wii Sports too. You can play it with anyone, and have fun even after 3years. I know some 360 owners who would never allow a Wii in their (admittedly ultra cool stoner-friendly) flat simply due to its image. They are the losers. Wait till they see NSMB :)

Agreed. NSMB is gonna be a pretty big deal.

Ok, if we're not gonna count BC (although Wii is the first Ninty console to ever allow it), then Wii still wins for me:

I was really pissed at what Gamecube offered at the time i had it (like 3 good games and that was it) so i sold mine (i was lucky to sell it like twice the price point, don't ask me how) and made a deal with a friend to use his whenever a good game came out...

Wii, on the other hand, has the "casual-5" (Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Wii Sports Resort) all of them are good (Wii Music is good but i don't own it because music preferences), Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy (waaayyyy better than Sunshine), SSB:Brawl (a good upgrade of Melee), Metroid Prime 3 (not better than 1, but better than 2), ToS2 (not better than ToS but still good), Tatsunoko vs Capcom, etc. and the upcoming lineup??? Come on, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: The Other M, Wii Fit Plus, Dragon Quest X... I'm not done counting i already surpassed the GC titles i ever owned...

Don't forget Tales of Symphonia (Gamecube) and Tales of Symphonia 2 (Wii) 2 gems in the RPG world...

Only in the minds of those who never owned a PS2 or DS.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure Tales of Symphonia for GC was one of the best RPG's of last gen.

NINTENDO
