Bleh, ok no you got me going.
I'm not referring to backward compatability when saying GC>N64>etc.etc. The point is that each generation has a natural advantage over previous generations, whether that be backward compatibility or not. That's not the issue here.
We are looking at the QUALITY OF SUPPORT Nintendo is giving to it's core gamers.
core gamer == 'the type of guy who spends time here' (i.e. us)
We live for Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc. (or MGS, FF, GT etc. depending what platform), so Nintendo giving high quality games of that calibur certainly denotes a certain 'metric quality' or 'particular experience'. How could you say the term 'core gamers' doesn't make sense? You live in an absolutely relative world then. God, we're gonna have whole different arguments soon.
Backing up again, the simple point of discussion is Nintendo's output of games that satisfies freaks like me. No one can say that Wii automatically wins because it plays GC games because it didn't exist when my Purple Lunchbox was wowing the hell out of me with Prime...
Mmm...The smell of purple plastic...Those curvy sides with that l.a.r.g.e green A-button....
