until they announce anything, they say they wont

Sony and Microsoft both deny rumors even after evidence until it's official.

They aren't just denying the rumors they're saying it's most likely the retailers themselves who are lowering the price.
Also, what happened to that DSi price cut that was suppose to happen yesterday or the day before.
One little picture gets everybody crazy.

They say they made no [public] announcement on price. I guess $249 wasn't announced. ;)
If it's not true, the rumor alone will be enough to drive down demand in anticipation of it being true... that it will become true...
(Offtopic) Let me just say this I hope that this really was just a retailer led discount.
Why? Because I'd like to see all the comments/articles/blog posts when the Wii is still $250 while the 360 & PS3 are $200.
If you go back to the source, it is a UK/EU Nintendo spokesperson saying no comment.
Also, CVG (the original source: http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=223308) could not get the price drop right, stating: The 'brochure', which advertises a drop down to $249 for the US Wii ...
It does speculate though that an official announcement would come at Kyoto CMEX on Sept. 26 -- which is one day before the Toys R Us brochure price goes into effect.

PS -- Does anyone have a link to the supposed Wal-Mart price reduction?
I am Mario.I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble. Wii Friend Code: 1624 6601 1126 1492 NNID: Mike_INTV |

1. The Wal-mart price-reduction didn't have a linked image, at least not to my knowledge. That's why we were able to doubt it more consistently than the newer Toys R' Us one.
2. Yes, CMEX starts on the 26th, but Nintendo's venue at CMEX isn't until the 3rd of October, a week after this is supposed to go down.
