This is the last new type of thread I'm going to do in my "Game of the Day" series, and I will now rotate through them 1-2 a day.
Thread Description: In this thread I will be looking at games that have been released for at least 18 months, and then comparing how much first week, and first month sales make up of the total. In the original post there will be one of two polls, one for a game with strong legs (1st month sales make up less than 30% of total sales) and one for why a game was more frontloaded (1st month sales make up more than 35% of total sales) and then also request people leave a comment with what game they voted for and why. I'm calling these "…of the Day" threads, but even if it is not the same day feel free to continue to comment in the thread. With the thread description out the way here is today's Look at those Legs Game of the Day…
Game of the Day
9/14
Resistance: Fall of Man
Column1 | # of copies sold | % of Total Sales |
First Week Sales | 0.24 | 6.71 |
First Month Sales | 0.54 | 14.86 |
Description: As you can see on it's way to 3.61 million copies sold, only ~7% of those were sold in its first week, and only ~15% in its first month. Which means Resistance is not at all frontloaded. So why was the title able to sustain strong sales for such a long period of time? Bundles, lack of competition, strong word of mouth? Something else? Vote in the poll and then let us know what you think.
