Hmm 5 million by the end of the fiscal year in Japan. Going to be tough but not completely impossible. FF13 will help to make that a possibility.

Like....CEO's in Japan that know what they're talking about. Sony has been in the electronics industry for decades. They wouldn't make that sort of prediction if they didn't think it were going to happen.

I don't think 5 million is going to happen, because if PS3 sells 500k in December alone, then it will need to sell an average of about 50k every week in September, October, November, January, February and March.

I severely doubt that will be the case.

Personally, I think the 4.5 million by the end of the CY is possible if both GT5 and FF13 are out by the end of the year. Personally, I can see 100k hw selling on GT5 week (December 4th?) and 300k hw selling FF13 week (Dec. 17th). It would have to do 1 million from this week to the end of the year.

My original prediction was 180k hw on FF13 launch, but have recently upgraded that to 300k.

Maybe I'm being a little optimistic, but over 200k is definitely possible.

Since sales have been generally slow for the console in the past, one game that tons of people will be wating will give a very big spike in the sales. I estimated the Slim launch to be 80-120k, and that was quite a bit lower than what happened.

If you ever go to Japan, I'm not exaggerating here. Everyone will know that FF13 is coming out on December 17th. It is or will shortly be listed at every single convenience store (7-11, Lawson, FamilyMart, AM/PM) and every Electronics store (Yamada, Yodobashi, Softmap, etc.)

Well what did the PS3 sell between Oct. 1st 2008 and March 31st 2009? Can anyone find out, my browser doesnt like the comparision chars for some reason.
