Valve Wants To Sell Mods On 360, Pay Creators

Valve are known for giving away DLC on PC. Microsoft are known for charging money for avatar t-shirts. Doesn't seem like there's a good way to bring the two together, but Valve may have an idea.

"One of the things I'm thinking about is how we work within that [Xbox Live] system," Valve's Yasser Mailaka told OXM, "and one of the things I'd like to do is to allow these modules that are being released on PC to somehow integrate with Microsoft's system."

"We'll have to filter them, we can't allow any copyrighted materials, so it's going to have to go through a process", he continued. "But we're hoping perhaps we can shepherd the really popular campaigns onto 360. And you know, if they are a paid system, perhaps that could go back to the authors. I think that would be a great story".

It would be a great story! One that, knowing the 360's marketplace and Valve's propensity for daydreaming will probably never happen, but hey, you can never say never.

I love Valve + Microsoft

Would be good if it could happen. Mods are seriously under-appreciated, especially by console only gamers. I know that without mods Fallout 3, Oblivion and Half-Life 2 would not have given me anywhere near as much playtime. In some cases the mods can surpass the original in terms of quality. Also, some of the modders really should get some money considering the effort they put in.

I don't. I <3 Valve, and can barely stand Microsoft. If it wasn't for Mircosoft's BS service mods would have been free and readily available for console owners. This is why I like Sony. They allow and have a home for modders.

I'm a PC fanboy first and foremost. Still, you cannot denie that its no one else's fault but Microsoft that Valve would even consider charging for whats free on PC.

I remember about 10 months ago 4 source mods were suddenly available on steam.. they had always been free but now valve was like "here guys looky this".... it was cool! 2 of those mods (Zombie panic source, age of chivalry" are actually decent games.

Age of Chivalry is a mod?!

That'd be cool and what kind of mod exactly? and would let people with mods to play with people without mods?

Ex. I had a CS mod that just changed the look of my guns and gave somewhat a different zoom perspective when sniping, yet cause of that mod i wasnt allowed to join in some servers.

Or are they talking bout a different type of mod?

This is both good and bad.

Say if there are many mods available, that will split the userbase of the game.
