I'm sorta with you on that Ben. The idea that someone is "trying to stop monopolies" is silly to me.
For me it has nothing to do with stopping monopolies or making a political point. I just use the same copy of windows from computer to computer. I really don't feel the need to buy yet another license of windows when I have already purchased windows XP pro at least 4 times.
Almost all other software you purchase lets you install it as you see fit and allows you to re-install it on new computers, new OS installs, etc... no problem. I just have a hard time seeing why MS needs us to pay them $120 every time we get a new computer, or upgrade vital hardware etc...Because according to their license agreement you are supposed to.
I don't even run windows on my spare computers, I could easily slap a pirated version of windows on there but for me its not about stealing windows its about not paying for something I have already paid for at least 4 times. So my main computer has windows and my laptop came with it pre-installed (with a nice disk to ghost on a fresh install) and those are my 2 windows machines.
My Vista install is something I got free from my college, they do a promotional thing for students apparently. But I may not even keep it even though it was free, vista literally gives me a headache.
