Forums - Sony - Is Sony back on top?

Yes.

I think shipments of PS3 will reach 80 million units before it stops being manufactured.

X360 70 million.

NDS? Wii? PSP?

Just ignoring and pretending some systems don´t excist is a very strange thing to do. This is all too often the case. I used to just compare consoles but now I´ve realised that we should compare all systems (consoles and portables) with one another since it´s very obvious they share the same arena. They all compete for developers and customers. Nintendo is on top. Or if we are going to be more exact, NDS is on top, it will most likely reach 180 million in shipments before all is over.

Handhelds dont exist for me.

I dont ignore the Wii, but I put PS3 on top because from this point forward in this gen (3-4 remaining years 'til nexgen starts) it will be perceived as the dominant console thanks to it's gigantic comeback - even if it keeps getting outsold by the Wii by a slight margin.

wayyyyyyy too early to tell.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Is it just me or there are far more xbox360 fans making threads like these than Ps3 fans? and then when xbox is doing better again you guys are gonna point the finger on ps3 fans for threads like these.

Remember 2 things :

- most of them became Xbox fan because media (NA) make it fun to joke about PS3 and/or because the system was too expensive for their pocket

- they were PS fan in the past

- they follow what is fashion : lot of people buying PS3 : is it becoming fashion ? should I go dark side ? is it GT5 the real driving simulator ? Is Unchartred2 the GotY ?

Well, most PS fans became PS fans because media made it fun to joke about Nintendo. They were all Ninty fans in the past, and they... follow what is fashion?

Or something.

Well portables don´t exist for you but they sure do for developers. Portables do compete with consoles for attracting  the resourses from developers, it´s very clear. Pretending portables don´t exist in the videogame market of today is just like walking through life with a blindfolder on. You can choose to view sales as you yourself want to but it won´t change the fact that consoles and portables all compete in the same market and therefore should be compared.

I disagree. They're different entities. I almost never see any threads or discussion about handheld games on gaming sites on the internet. Consoles is where it's at.

One week of big PS3 sales... And suddenly Sony will be on top in a couple of years? They haven't had a successful Christmas for this year yet-they could still end up in 3rd place in overall sales this Christmas. Wait a couple of months and see how Slim holds up over Christmas. Then see what kind of weekly sales it settles into in the first few months of next year.

Remember we haven't yet seen what PS Wand will do for sales, or Natal. We haven't yet seen Nintendo change their price point for Wii, or change the software it's bundled with. They haven't yet come out with a Wii Fit bundle or Motion Plus bundle.

Sony still have the most work to do, and they've had to do the most to remain competitive. I think Slim has had a great opening week, but I don't delude myself by thinking this one week marks the turning point of the generation.

Well there should be and I think that more people are going to recognize what has happened in the industry of videogames. Things have changed this generation compared to previous ones escpecially in Japan where a lot of highquality and big titles are announced for portables where they previously would be developed for consoles. It wasn´t like this previous gens but it sure is very clear today. I used to think the way you do but there is much evidence today that all systems share the same arena and compete with eachother and therfore should be compared.

I can't wait for this:

Has huge potential to be successful (if it's true 1:1 sensitivity). I'd love a medieval sword and shield game. I hope Natal gets this peripheral physical sword function too.

Imagine if they use that for Elder scroll V.
