Forums - Sony - Is Sony back on top?

If Nintendo headquarters exploded, and all the Wii manufacturing plants exploded, and all the Wiis that are in stores exploded, and no more Wiis were ever sold again, and the PS3 DOUBLED its average weekly sales for the next 3 years, in 3 years it would still be in 3rd place.

Yes they have this generation in the bag easily.

Sometimes, Sony is on top. Other times, Sony likes to be on the bottom. Every now and then, they switch it up with a little doggy-style. The PS3 is freaky like that.

man Sony fanboys are really taking this whole sales thing too seriously.

it doesn't matter whether they're first or last. what matters is that they make profits (which isn't the case anyway). Sony blew this generation, and I'm pretty sure they'll only start making profits once they discontinue the PS3.

Its actually a Xbox fan that made this thread.

The unconditional love of some fanboys is something I'll never understand. Sony deserved everything they got since they were being arrogant pricks with their overpriced machine that they thought apparantly everyone would buy because they made it. So they suffered and finally lowered the price and even made a cheaper model. I think that's the closest thing to an appology we will see from Sony. So Sony might get back on top now that they know how it is to be on the bottem (just like Nintendo with the gamecube). But beating the Wii requires more then just a cheap console, it requires something unique. So maybe they can surpase the 360 but they won't touch the Wii until they succesfully place the PS-Wand on the market. And Microsoft is playing that game aswell so maybe they can surpase the 360 only to be run over by Natal futher down the line.

No Nintendo is on top and that will not change this generation. Wii and especially NDS are too big to overcome.

Don't be too sure about that. 50 + 30 + 20 million (rough figures) = only 100 million consoles sold. Last gen we had a total of 180 million so there are plenty of would be console buyers out there. And not to forget 140 million of those had a PS2 so I'm sure a huge majority of those 80 million lastgen owners still out there are on PS2. And I'm sure a lot got it for the fun stuff (eyetoy) + cheap price so nothing is decided yet but Sony has the advantage since these peopel are familiar with Playstation.

^^That is going to be the deciding facctor in the console war, now all them PS2 owners that still love their ps2's will decide who in the end wins, because like you said at least 80 million of them are still interested in the ps2, when it comes to upgrade i hope they chose ps3 because it is the best value for your money, and it does everything

it's the future of handheld

Yes.

I think shipments of PS3 will reach 80 million units before it stops being manufactured.

X360 70 million.
