Forums - Gaming - Will Aion be the Death of WOW???

For that to happen, it have to be the Wii of MMOs. What I mean is, it would have to bust out and innovate like no MMO has, and even then, I'm not sure it would dethrone WoW...

Kind of what WoW is?

It might pull away some paying customers but it wont have major affect. The buyers are probably mostly new MMO buyers.

The only two MMOs that has a chance to affect WOW are Final Fantasy XIV and Blizzard MMO Project 2 which they are developing.

No, WoW isn't like the Wii since it didn't create a new market (Blue Ocean strategy :P ), it was, simply put, bigger, better and more badass than any of it's competitors, better polished, and, like Blizzard always do (and I don't realize why other PC developers other than like, Valve, don't), made to be able to run on even low-end PCs.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Uhh.... yes it did. Far more women play WoW than any other MMO out there, and young kids too. It's expanded the market beyond anything it was before it hhit.

Aion and Wow are pretty different in focus. The two games are actually quite a bit different. Aion succeeds in the area of RvR combat which WoW does not have much of. WoW's pve in particular events, raids, factions are simply the best still thou. WoW will continue to dominate these areas. In regards to pvp, Wow is focused around small group (arena / BG) vs Aion's large / medium group RvR pvp both styles can be fun. I do feel that Aion will be a success most due to this different focus on RvR.

My own issue with Aion is that getting to the pvp in Aion feels too much like a chore. Being forced to go through Aion's questing and pve felt almost like grinding.  The 100 possible deliveries for funds is an example. Since the majority of WoW players in NA / EU are pve players, I do not really feel that WoW will loose alot of these pve primary customers.  However, Aion will hammer Warhammer into oblivion as well as pull some more pvp oriented customers from WoW and other MMOs.

THAT'S. MY. POINT.

For another MMO to dethrone WoW, it'd have to basically re-invent the genre...

Exactly.

And I can assure you that won't happen, from what Ive played in the beta, its just another Korean MMO which has features that other MMO's have already done.
