Im probably going to pick up a PS3 Slim soon and I have a couple of questions.

Will I be able to transfer my game saves and progress from my old PS3, and if so how?  I was thinking  of using a flash drive if that would work.

Also will I be able to log into my current PS3 account on the new console?

yeah, you can use a flash drive (IF big enough as big how you are using off your HDD)
it copies everything but u won't be able to active it until log in.
and yes. you can log in into your old account.

just create a new user, and use your existing account.

it may be a good idea to desactive purchased games /movies from the old ps3 if you are selling it over ebay.

but for a friend u can contact, not reason, you both can share them while he keeps your account into the ps3, he can log in into his account.

You will be able to transfer your gamesaves and there are a couple ways to do this,  you can do a complete backup of your old PS3.   I would reccommend getting rid of any game data(not save data), movies, games or demos that you have downloaded from the PS Store before hand just so that the backup file is managable because the PS3 will try and backup all of these files.    Or you can just go to the save data part on the XMB and transfer the gamesaves to a flash drive.  Backing up will make sure all game saves transfer but the other way will not.

Yes you will be able to login to your account from your new console.  All you need is the email associated with you account and the password. 

1) Yes. But some games like RE5, Burnout and I believe KZ2 will not allow it.
