Forums - Sony - Sony’s Facial Recognition Software via PlayStation Eye

The issue with Natal is that it is a great idea for a UI change. For games however, it will be limited use.

The first and foremost thing with Natal is the lack of feedback. Considering how much Sony was derided for not having rumble in the PS3 when it is not that great a feedback system (but a feedback system nevertheless) I don't see Natal succeeding.

The other problem that I have with Natal is the smoke and mirrors thing, they showed "what is possible with a system "like" Natal" not really Natal. Those were all "aiming to achieve " this vision type demos and if past experiences have been any indication MS has always under delivered.

Natal may be able to change the UI I have no doubt as it is the easiest thing to do. Revolutionize games on the other hand ... you are not going to see it happen fall 2010 that much I can guarantee. Fall 2015 maybe.

Natal 2 would be awesome.

Around the Network

Some guy posted a video of the ps2 eyetoy vs natal, and the chinese girl was hitting a ball and the commercial said "I sure like hitting balls", I chuckled when I heard that LOLZ

i knew it, the pseye is very capable.

just needs the software to back it up.

It is a webcam...

Did you have anything good to say in this thread?

Or is it the usual "Natal > PSeye" shit?

Leave... please.

what?

PEye IS just a webcam... this is a software development, a good one.. no doubt,

but,

Natal IS MORE than just a webcam

why is that so offensive to you... its true.

the idea it's the same though, while natal camera try to create a 3d model with a infra red burst.

ps3 eye try to track objects using a video but also the wand have motion controls (accelerometers) so it works even hidden from the camera.( which is something people FORGET) and also the wand its going get a stick.

making it the most complete of the 3. coupled with a already working facial recognition, headtracking and 1-1 motion sensors.
