The short answer is that the balance board will unlikely ever pass the PS3 sales.

It will not push the hardware as much as Wii Fit did, but sequels can have some effect on hardware. It can ignite new enthusiasm in the people who already bought Wii Fit, and that is something that can spread to people who were otherwise on the fence. It is also a more content-full and possibly better package than the original, so it may pull in people who were interested in the product, but didn't think it was quite enough for them.

Seriously though, you've gotta factor in NSMB Wii. Even if it has no direct relation to the Balance Board, it'll drive the Board to 3rd!

the Balance Board is already IN third place 'statistically' if you consider an error margin of 10% while tracking the two systems

It didn't sell more than what it is hoped for, Ps3 sales now possibly in par with Xbox 360 sales.

What is sure is the 360 is going to last place at the speed of light, being last in weekly sales every week even behind PSP.
So PS3 should end second. First HD console, I should say.
