Forums - Gaming - Virtual Reality Gaming - What happend?

Remember back in the days when you were a kid and Virtual Reality was the future now b_e_l_i_e_v_e?

What happend?

I remember using one of these devices at a techdemo thingy they had in our city. Where you walked around in an virtual labyrinth and had tried to find the exit. I was blown away, i thought the future was here and that one day everyone would have one of these in their home. And that everyone would run around with guns in some sort of virtual FPS game.

I also remember when the movie Demolition Man, with Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone, came out. Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock even had virtual reality sex. Amazing. But it never really took off as one did imagine. Today we have Wii and such to give us the feeling that we're in the game, that we're in total controll when playing tennis or golf etc.

Is Virtual Reality Gaming the predecessor of Wii, and soon to be released, Natal and Sonys motion cotrollers?

Or might Z-Dome be the closest thing to the old Virtual Reality helmet?

Is that Assassin Creed btw?

Could this be the next thing to hit mainstream? Or will this suffer the same fate as Virtual Reality Gaming? Has the tech of Virtyal Reality Gaming been implemented or transformed into something else? I know figher pilots can practise flight maneuvers by entering a simulation machine, which is quite close to the Virtual Reality "Gaming" im talking about. But is there anything else?

Would you buy it if it was released next gen? And bundled with the game Next Gen Duckhunt!? :D

Remember the Virtual boy? it failed, no one else tried, Nintendo killed of the Virtual reality on purpose to take advantage of 3D gaming with the N64

Nintendo is the best videogames company ever!

Headsets are still uncomfortable and bulky, not to mention expensive. The dome thing looks nice for arcades, but who really wants to have something like that in their house.

So instead we got motion sensitive controllers and snazzy touch screen mobile devices, which ain't too bad.

How do you know this all isn't just really advance virtual reality that robots made so they can harvest our energy because at some point we blocked out the sun in a desperate attempt to fight off their economic control over the world?

Thank you!  I'm glad somebody is being level headed!

So Virtual boy's failing was all a plot by the brilliant (and evil) minds at Nintendo tower? Yeah, and the moon is made of cheese.

Hahaha best reply ever!

I think that's an idea of the past, and i don't miss it. Z-Dome looks awesome though, now that i would like to look more into.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
