I don't understand why some people have or had problems with the homing attack. The cursor turns red and you make a quick motion (I move the Wiimote downward/forward), this works 99 % of the time for me.

3 hours of play time are needed to fix the snail speed of Sonic, the controls are fine. It's not too hard to control a slow character.

This game is the 5th best Wii game I've played, after TP, RE4, Trauma Center and Super Paper Mario.

And the always running thing is mostly just a pain in the smaller slower sections. Oh I got hit, but I'm stuck on the enemy because I keep running into him. I'd like to back up but it sucks too much.

Oh yeah, I thought of another one. Slow time would be awesome if it weren't for one little thing.
The game's jumping/other stuff isn't smooth enough normally let alone when it's slowed down so much and you're just as slowed down. the training level for slow time is almost unplayable. using it doesn't allow you to manuever obstacles any easier, and once you get hit, you're hit takes about 5 times longer.

about the whole 720,000 units, does this game have a shot at 1 mil lifetime? Its pretty much gone in US and Japan, but if you look at recent Sonic games (Rush). They start out VERY slowly, and tend to just sell about 10k a week forever. Rush actually sold almost 2x as much in Europe as here. Looking at Secret Rings vs. Rush's first 9 months on the market:

Rush (November 05 - July 06) 252,423 (US sales)
Rings (February 07 - October 07) 310,000 (US sales)

Rush's Lifetime is 1.75 million, which is pretty impressive.
Though, the sales of Rush in Europe are double the sales of the US, at 1.12 million. Sonic and the Secret Ring's European sales are only 370,000 as of now.

Regardless I think the holiday and a few more months on the market will push this title over the million sold mark, which might inspire SEGA to take some time with a sequel.
I bought it and enjoyed it, it wasn't perfect but still a fun game (2nd sonic game, rush was my first)



I was thinking about that too carinunz. But I just don't see it. The Secret Ring's sales have completely bottomed out. It might eventually make 800,000. But even that's not garuanteed.

Yeah Stof, i too don't get what was your beef with the homing attack, since you can improve it quite early in the game. As for Time break you can upgrade that too to move more smooth. If all those moves were unlocked as default controlls, it would have been a very easy and quick to complete game.

- The music is cheesy but it's nice to see a game with an original singing OST. (plus the ending song is beautiful.)

- Japanese is the language to choose, it's not the game's fault that Sonic X anime got that snotty voice for the USA dub. They practically enforced that voice to the games.

Backtracking with the remote was very clumsy indeed. The backflip helped things though. 

The game is on the right track to a proper 3d Sonic game, and i wish too for a sequel. The arabian nights backstory was a bit out of place for sonic, but the game overall was very rewarding for me. And it looks stunning when going to full speed through the levels.

I played the original E3 demo first, and I loved it... it just had no goals, just run to the end as fast as possible with very little backing up, just burn burn burn through the levels.

Because of this I bought the game because I thought I would love it... I didn't read anything more, reviews, nothing because I was set on how good it would be.

Pity that it turned out exactly like you said and I was SO angry and frustrated with the game... I completely agree that this is the most frustrating game i've ever played because at the core it's a good idea and a good game design, but the more I think about it the more I keep hating so many of the decisions that they made...



The most ingenius part of the game was one of the boss battles where you fight in a big ring with rocks scattered around. The fun part was when the boss went offscreen because you had little ability to actually TURN Sonic around to get a bearing on the boss again. I just ended up running into the wall until I had a decent angle to attack.

That game had real potential but parts of the control system just had you shaking your head at its stupidity.

I think he might mean the Trex Rol. It's in a circular fashion, and you need to get him to bite down at you to hit the rocks. I didn't have much trouble with it, but the camera admittedly wasn't that great at the time.

I think he means the fire/lava boss. It is the only ring like arena I can think of.
