Just a curious question. In history has any Sega, Atari or any other console manu. come back from out of third place to second or first?

Well really RolStoppable the Saturn didn't count as they withdrew the console in 1997 or 98 I think when Sega announced that Saturn wasn't its future.
But I mean Xbox did good against the GC.

No, the PS1 always had the lead over the N64. Also, the topic is about from 3rd to 2nd or 1st. |
Yeah Soriku PS1 was always on top. N64 was never number 1 that gen.
So then why do I hear alot of talk that the PS3 will come back and move into 2nd place and more than likely in first?
The Wii has done a good job of taking the number 1 spot, and I think the SNES achieved a similar feat back when it outsold the Genesis. Xbox came back from behind the GC, but there was never that big a difference to begin with. I would say it is really hard to call one or the other the definitive second or third place when they are within nearly 10% of each other their entire lifespans while being behind the PS2 by such a huge amount.
The one thing all the consoles have in common though is that they were behind due to release date. The opponent had the lead only due to reaching the market first. I cannot think of a single example of a console overcoming any large deficit after a year on the market. Once the slow sales start, they rarely stop.
So basically history has proven that a console that is last at the begining has no chance in hell to come back in second, or let alone first.
I think the PS3 will catch up but won't surpass the 360 numbers. 360 and PS3 are going to be like how the Xbox and Gamecube were last gen.

Some people believe that Playstation on top is the natural order of the industry simply because the first two Playstations were market leader. |
Oh...and thats what I figured. But its a totally different scenario this gen.
Well, technically the Wii went from 3rd to 1st since it launched two days after the ps3. :P
But realistically, a 3rd place console could never catch back up to 1st, during a standard length generation. If the generations were a few years longer, than it's feasible, I guess, depending on the 1st party strength of each console.
