Oh btw - I want some feedback on this idea for next year:

Team Rankings.

Basically at the beginning of the year you submit a ranking and any game you miss you can request a win based on ranking. If your ranking has the team that won ranked ahead of the team that lost by 5 places or more you will be given the benefit of the doubt that you would have picked them.

By doing this though all games you didn't predict for the week will count as played and thus you can also add losses to your total by doing this (this is required so that this method of predicting doesn't present a tie-breaker advantage).

Example

If I have rankings of:

  1. MIN
  2. IND
  3. SD
  4. DAL
  5. NYJ
  6. GB
  7. ARI
  8. PHI

And I missed a week in which:

  • MIN beat GB
  • IND beat SD
  • NYJ beat DAL
  • PHI beat ARI

I would get a win for MIN over GB, but since IND over SD are ranked within 5 places I don't get the benefit of the doubt (this game is left unplayed), but I also had DAL ranked over NYJ and ARI ranked over PHI so I would get 2 losses for having those wrong.  My total for this week would be 1-2 with 1 un-predicted game (IND @ SD)

Benefits:
- Teams that are ranked close together, and are thus close calls, won't give up free wins.
- Upset victories won't provide any points to players.
- Unlike other methods I've talked about for handling missed predictions this would not have a limit on the number of points you could earn during a week because you in essence did make your predictions.
- By requiring members to request a week be predicted by ranking they still have to check in on a fairly regular basis but forgetting to submit for the week or having a submission error won't cost you quite as badly as it did previously.

Questions:
- Should we allow rankings to be updated at any time? I don't see a downside but I haven't thought it all out just yet.
- Should I also use the rankings to build the playoff predictions? Basically as of the submission deadline I would just take the top 6 teams from each conference as your playoff predictions. Alternatively I could do submissions like we did this year and then just allow people to request playoff predictions by ranking as well. Some thoughts on this please.

Sounds good . That part I bolded a bit confusing though. INd over SD 2 over 3 ....why wouldn't u get it? WHile Dallas 4 over NYJ 5 ..u get counted...maybe i'm reading it wrong...

  • MIN(1) beat GB(6) : My ranking shows MIN 5 spots ahead of GB meaning I clearly have them as a better team.  Benefit of the doubt is given that I would have picked MIN and since MIN did win I get 1 win.
  • IND(2) beat SD(3) : My ranking shows IND and SD very closely ranked, as a result it is not clear I would have picked them since home field and injuries might change the situation.
  • NYJ(5) beat DAL(4) : My ranking says DAL is a better team than NYJ but NYJ won, this game is a loss.
  • PHI(8) beat ARI(7) : My ranking says ARI is a better team than PHI but PHI won, this game is a loss.

Note that the "benefit of the doubt margin" only works the one way, this is intentional. The idea is that this method should not be preferred over a typical weekly submission.

Or put more clearly (hopefully), to get a win it has to be "clear" (as defined by the 5 ranking difference between two teams) that you would have picked the game correctly from your rankings.  If your ordering was correct but it's not "clear" then it's neither a win or a loss, just an unplayed game. If your ranking disagrees with the result then it is a loss.

So far the Bears seem to have the biggest impact signing Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor from the Vikings.

Antonio Cromartie to Jets that's gonna be one hell of a Tandem ...

Nate Burleston to Lions.

Redskins drop half their roster...

Wow they signed both of them. I didnt know that thanks for the info!
