Oh yes - have you? I have never been a fan of "driving games" - instead I prefer "racing games". There is a serious distinction. Its the "realism" vrs "fun" distinction. I own ExciteTruck, and have played quite a bit of it. And I have played a couple of games of Motorstorm - that will do me, don't need/want to play anymore ;). You Sony fans can take it instead (if it came out on the Wii - exactly as it was - I wouldn't buy it...). My opinion anyway :)

Lingyis : that's funny, as it's exactly why Nintendo decided to cap graphics capabilities. They've seen their devs spending too much time and struggling on graphics and not enough on the game itself, so they supposed every devs had the same problems. Seems like they were right. 3rd parties will soon all be forced to develop good games, and won't have any excuses like "we spent everything on graphics". The leak of more and more exclusives makes them right again. I'm amazed at the strategy power of Nintendo recently. They weren't too good at tactics though, but I'll watch to see if they improved.

Just keep in mind that motorstorm is still one of the PS3's early games, so it's not going to be as good as it could be. I think that it would be more accurate to start judging sony in a critical fashion after a couple of months.

True enough, if a system is popular enough companies will continue to find tricks to get greater performance out of the system for most of its life. The important thing to remember is that there are only so many hacks to reduce the complexity of a problem and a system has limited resources so the improvements that can be made are limited.

RolStoppable said: The problem this time is that the devs don't have the time to work with the hardware until they truly understand it. Sony is missing the headstart.
And they are making up for it with tools like edge and ICE. Also by having their first party devs share alot of their techniques. Material for the layman is quite available as well, as far as the cell is concerned. So the headstart issue is not really a factor considering some unorthodox things have heppened with the development of the PS3.

To me the graphics were amazing, but the game feel short of being any fun. For one the online totally sucks, takes too long to join a game..... it's just awful. If you want to do online right look at Resistance fall of man. that's how you do online multiplayer. Is it just me or in the demo did you have better control... for some reason the game actually feels like they made it more loose in-order to speed up the game play... another thing I didn't like. All in all the game looks amazing. It just doesn't play amazing. and I think that's the main reason I’ve seen sites like Gametrailers give it a 7.6 and some other site gave it an 8.0 I think it was http://www.ps3nut.com or something... but the point is I agree with these scores because the game could have been so much better, but I think it was rushed because of the pressure from sony, I mean we really don't have any good games out besides RFOM. I hope they can clean the game up with an update or do something; I would have loved to see, design your own rider... or More vehicles. Better in game chat for multiplayer, much better game connection engine put in place. And Lights on the vehicle, I mean you make some really great dark boards but you forget to turn on the lights on the vehicles. Come on’ this is PS3 if any game system can handle this its’ the PS3. And what’s with the 12 online that’s so old tech, this is next generation gaming, you need 32 minimum on screen at the same time. If you can’t do it in multiplayer, at least do it in single player. You know how amazing that would look. I just felt the game was ok but not great. And that’s sad, because it’s right around the corner from greatness. Hopefully Motorsport 2 will get these key things right.

I didnt know that the PS3 had online gaming??!

I'll just say one thing about Motorstorm's graphics: In real life, dirt and wood don't shine/glare.

shams said: Well, I have played MotorStorm now (a few min ago). Sorry, Im so *not* impressed. It might be a "realistic" sim style game - but it simply isn't any fun. The speed is way too slow (the game I was playing anyway) - in fact, it feels like "I was driving through mud" (funny that). The graphics are generally nice - but where are the huge mud sprays? I was expecting MUD all the over the place? Even in 1st-person mode there wasn't that much? It feels to me like a "typical" Sony product - too much sim, not enough fun. Im so not interested - and I consider ExciteTruck to be a vastly superior "game". Sony - you had your chance to convince me - and the collective comment (from the guys here at work) seems to be "meh".
maybe it was the board you were playing or the path you took because when i was playing mud was all over my screen i could barely see where i was going
