I'd rather him investigate himself to prove his sanity, and my innocence. You have been acting a bit suspicious for a while yourself though. Why wouldn't we want to confirm who is sane/insane and instead keep that potential mystery a float?

If they're naive and not insane, everyone will appear innocent.  Scanning themselves just wastes a turn.  Better to scan other people and try to get guilty results.
