Forums - Nintendo - Wii Sales Down Nearly 50% In US YOY. Pachter Prediction.

Pachter - US to show 14% drop in August, Wii price cut before November

That time of the month again. Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter just released his August estimates for the US, showing a 14 percent year-over-year decline.

Wii sales, said the analyst, are likely to have fallen nearly 50 percent. He added that a price cut will be needed this year for Nintendo to hit forecasts.

From a note:

We estimate sell-through of 240,000 Wii hardware units (down 47% from last year), 205,000 Xbox 360 (up 5% from last year), and 160,000 PS3 consoles (a 14% year-over-year unit decline) as the overall sales decline trends continued until price cuts spurred demand in the last few days of the month. Sony cut the PS3 price in the last week of the month, and we expect to see PS3 sales grow substantially in September. We do not think that Nintendo’s Wii hardware forecast is achievable without a price cut, and as long as the Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, we expect continued year-over-year declines for that console’s sales. We expect a Wii price cut no later than November.

August’s NPD hit this Thursday.

Got the story here.

I hate how analysts keep pushing for price cuts, instead of forecasting they are just saying what they want and delaying sales in the process, even if Nintendo does a price cut, it will be next year, Christmas its at least 2million sales for sure, price cutting is just wasting money, and the Wii is still the best console in overall quality and price,

Nintendo is the best videogames company ever!

I still say that a price-cut will come for April, after Nintendo's fiscal year. Any other time wouldn't make sense, unless they did it this month or next month. You don't want to do anything that would slow holiday momentum in the middle of a holiday, and it would be a douchebag move to price-cut immediately after the holidays, so the start of their new fiscal year makes the most sense.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

His numbers sound right, although I don't think we'll see a pricecut yet.

Wii iz doomz!

Wait! I thought we already have several of these threads already. Can't we save them for slow news weeks?

Well his predictions are all of them spot on so I don’t see why this won’t come true :P

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

What is his accuracy? 20% or something?

ugh, enough of these threads already

I expect bundles before a price cut. Cutting the price is the last option for Nintendo.

Pachter would know this if he was a less anal analyst.
