Forums - Website Topics - A question for the site owners

This has been bothering me for a while and I just never got around to asking about it. Recently, ads were getting pretty annoying. Particularly the pop-up flash banner thing at the bottom of window and the flash pop-ups that cover a portion of the page and don't have a close button. They're gone now... so far... I think.

Anyways, my question is: Are you in control of the ads, at the whim of the ad agencies/sponsors, kind of in control of them or what the situation with that?

probably not

I regret making this my username, I made this name when I was 13 years old

@PDF

Let me just clear something up:
This is not a complaint. Just a question. I'm curious as all.

This is kinda disappointing. I was hoping to have a official response (or something close) on this by now. Maybe not the site's owners but someone in the know like the site admin or someone.

im pretty sure thats how they keep the site up....they can keep it up with the promise that they advertise

I can sorta answer this.

Yes, he is in control of the ads to an extent. We are trying to get better ones. You'll notice a Full Sail ad along with a lot of other good ads. In fact, the Full Sail one is on the bottom of the screen now. These "good" ads are pretty much directly controlled by ioi. If they do poorly though, we won't get more. By "good" ads I'm referring to ads that would be targeted directly at gamers.

However, there are also "bad" advertisements (flashy click here ads and such) which ioi is not directly in control of. We can get some removed if they cause problems, but we don't really know what will show up where.

If the good ads take off, then the bad ads can be removed. Not only that, but if the good ones do well and the traffic increases we could go to whole page ads that look much nicer and aren't quite as intrusive. I've seen some ads on some game websites that occupy 1 top ad and 1 side ad but they go together perfectly and look really nice. Also, I don't know if you remember the background ads, but those made the website look better (IMO) and were still decent ads.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I also want to point out that most(all?) of the ads are region based. And since ioi lives in England he may not get some of the annoying adds that us Americans are getting. I don't know what the point of this post was , I just wanted to post it

@nordlead

Thank you, that satisfies my curiosity. Also, I'm happy to hear you're trying to get rid of the "bad" ads.
