Forums - Nintendo - Am I the only person who owns a wii and doesn't want NSMBW?

First, yes, I'm getting it.

Secondly, I really don't care who gets it or who doesn't, but this "casual" vs. hardcore thing is getting rediculous. Hey, fanboys of all walks, guess what, Grand Theft Auto is "casual", Halo's "casual", Super Smash Bros. Brawl is "casual." Gears of War and Left 4 Dead are "casual." Do they all have "hardcore/gamer/core" elements, sure, doesn't mean they aren't casual though.

I miss the days when all of this crap meant absolutely nothing, and games were played for enjoyment, and not because they were "hardcore" games for "gamers."

I just feel like some people are trying to find reasons to say when the game has already sold like 20 million copies: "Well, it is big, and it is one of the best selling games of all time, and no game appeared on the HD Twins can outsell it even combined, but...it isn't as big as you predicted because it didn't convice everyone to buy it, it didn't convince me..."

Mario has allways be a hardcore francise but them make a 4 coop mario seems to me they are making the game for the causal player rather than the hardcore and no online coop is just a dumb move. There are my reasosn and remenber this just my fricking opionoin.

. . .

...That...

...What?

That is the worst fucking logic I've ever read in this forum. I'm done with this topic.

I've never known Nintendo to base a main Mario game around multiplayer.

That's why they aren't. Nintendo will develop the game solely around the single player mode. The levels will be designed with one person in mind, but not forgetting about the four players.

Co-op IS a casual feature. It allows inexperienced gamers to join their more core friends to work together and beat the game. Plus just the idea of playing with a group of people is something that would be more attractive to a "casual" gamer (i.e. casual gamers don't tend to like playing games alone). So yes, this is a casual feature, but that doesn't mean it can't appeal to hardcore gamers as well.

This is a lucid and well-reasoned explanation, thank you, though I find the implication that this could be a bad thing to be heinous.

That said, the person of whom I asked the question insists that co-op is not casual. So my question to him remains.

Note to those too young to remember: the idea of co-op play in a Mario game is NOT new. In fact the very first game to have Mario in its title was co-op.

Technically, I dont have a wii because the one right in front of me wasn't bought in my name but since I can play it whenever I want, I'll add my view.

Personally, I don't care for NSMBW either but I'll be really happy if the wii can get another fire emblem game. That series seriously rocks and DS sprites don't count.

Your feelings are ugly and wrong.

Mario Party 8 is a crappy collection of mini games... New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the first console 2D Mario game since.. what? Super Mario World? That was almost 20 years ago. The two games can't really compare at all.

I thought Mario Bros was competative.

Incorrect.

  1. Super Mario Bros.
  2. Super Mario Bros. 2
  3. Super Mario Bros. 3
  4. Super Mario Land
  5. Super Mario World
  6. Super Mario Land 2
  7. New Super Mario Bros.

That makes NSMB Wii the eighth game, just like Mario Party 8 was. Since the Party game wasn't all that great, it's fair to assume that NSMB Wii will be of similar questionable quality.

He's wrong, but not for that reason. He wrote "console 2D Mario game", which means Super Mario All-Stars (a compilation, but he didn't write "completely original") came after Super Mario World. Of course that was still the SNES, so it's been quite a while anyway.
