Well walking into Game yesterday in Plymouth was good to see a PS3 say £299. However, 2 people looking at it stated it has not got good games. I didnt know these guys just listening to their conversations. Also although I own 360 I think it's wrong that the staff there are telling people that they should get wii or 360. Once I heard a staff member say to a guy that it was a pointless purchase. Thats pretty bad in my eyes. People should make their own choices! It will have some good games of there own merrit.
Not exactly. Remeber that a lot of people want some info before thay buy a product, that's why they ask for someone's opinion. Therefore he didn't say it as astore clerk but as an individual. Hell he might have said that the Wii is a waste of time and no one could say a bad word about it. But he was right that it is a pointless purchase as of right now. The good games are going to appear later on, right now there aren't any killer games that that you couldn't buy on the xbox360. Wii is in a league of it's own right now, so no point in bringing it into the pointless/not pointless arguement.

Sorry m8 disagree. It's a valid point. Advice would be: at the mo the games are so so. But 2008 has some cracking titles plus if you want HD vids it has Blu ray. Not just kicking it in the teeth. Also if someone told me to buy a wii 6 months ago and I got it home I personally would have been dissapointed. I personally think the time for me to get a wii is this christmas and i'm glad I waited. On the PS3 front it depends on which games remain exclusive. GT5 isnt a clause for me cause I have FM2. So we will see.

Well, i'm talking about Europe so tell me, just how much of Europe gives a damn about HD ? that 5-8% of the whole EU population? Why bring the Wii up? It's not about it that we're talking here. About recieving advice from store clerks, what's the problem? You assume, that that the clerk only said: "No, the PS3 is a piece of crap, don't you even go near it." That you don't know. I have never seen any clerk that would actually go off like that. Better yet, if you ask a clerk for his individual thoughts on a product, which i myself always ask, you gain some perspective. They almost always explain why they would recommend this or another product. It's not about that it's wrong for the clerks to advise their clients in this form, it's about that we don't know how they will express their feelings for the products.

 The wii was an example. Read posts carefully. Also he was actually bashng the PS3, Ive heard it a few times now. I own 360 as I said before, but I felt like butting in. theres a difference in opinions and bashing. Also all my mates own HD TV's. Alot of people are getting the trend now here in U.K. All the Tv's in our local Curry's above 22" are all HD Ready.

For me, the 60 gb PS3 is still too expensive, not to mention, that right now there aren't any games that i want on the system. It doesn't matter what people say, 500$ and more than 300 pounds is too much for a console. And no, i don't appreciate when "cool devices" like blu ray are forced upon me.

Just so everyone knows, the upconversion of PS2 games is not as spectacular as you might hope. Most HDTVs have their own "upscaler" built into the hardware to convert the source image into the actual native display resolution. As long as you have the correct cabling (ie. component), it won't look significantly worse than the upscaled PS3 output. The PS3 does support a "smoothing" effect for PS2 games which does make a bit of difference to the output image, but again, it isn't as great as you might hope.

Good to know I don't need to buy the PS3 for at least another 1 or 2 years then and better start selling my PS2 collection then. Even with a component cable PS2 games look like crap on my TV, no progressive scan, means no upscale and since developers such as Square Enix were to damn lazy to put this in their games, while a Tri Ace already did about 5 years ago... the images don't improve at all and make them look like PS games.

@Onna76:

What kind of TV do you have? Maybe you should upgrade that instead of buying a PS3?

I've already upgraded my TV. That's why the PS2 games look bad on my TV, the more the resolution is, the worse the images get. I've paid a lousy 1400USD for a Sony Bravia LCD HD Ready TV of only 26 inch :=/ If that ain't upgrading... tips are welcome, because it makes me depressed I can´t play a FFXII without getting a headache.... now even more since my PS2 is dead of course.

Sorry for getting off topic guys but this is bothering me for more than a half year.

Well, on my television, I don't really notice a difference for PS2 games between 480i and 480p, as the hardware upscaler basically converts the interlaced signal into a progressive image. PS2 games look generally quite good, especially if they have a strong graphics engine to begin with. I have a plasma though, not LCD.

Really?? *sobs*... I've heard from someone in the past I was better off with a Plama TV. The thing is only Plasma TV's you only have in huge sizes if I'm not mistaken, right? Too big for my place. Plus they consume about twice as much power as a normal LCD TV does, unfortunate.

 Plasmas do look alot warmer on the picture.

I just threw in FFXII for reference, and despite the jaggies evident in many PS2 games, it looked fairly nice, particularly in the close-up scenes. As for the screen-size, I think the smallest plasmas are 37", and they do consume more power than LCD TVs do. In my opinion, they carry a lot of advantages over LCD TVs in general, though.

THe people on the message boards are always hardcore gamers that would like better the 60Gb in any case .Those posts are completely expected .But for the people on the street the machine is still a PS3 with BR,Cell,RSX,Wifi,hard disc ,free online,sixaxis controllers by bluetooth etc etc and a lot cheaper than before .The machine will sell way better .

And seeing as the 60Gb will sell I doubt Sony will keep us without BC forever .THey just want to deplete the 60Gb here ,probably later and if the consumers request so they will introduce the 80Gb (still in production ) to the European market .

PD:Elite Girl Gamer is Gballzack or whatever she was called ,I think its pretty obvious .
