Forums - Gaming - Some UK opinions of the 40G PS3

Ok these are only from Teletext but the general concensus seemd to be that the £50 drop on the 60G is a hell of  lot more popular than the 40G. even though the new pack (dubbed value pack here in UK/Ireland) has one less controller than than the old starter pack (controller= £30) and you no longer get to choose two games (you have to get it with resistance and motorstorm)

So, these are from the Inbox section of GameCentral on teletext. (the second one made me laugh)

"Well done Sony - you have one new customer at least! I've just spent £369 for the 60GB version plus three games and two Blu-ray discs.
Is it just me or does the 40GB version look overpriced by comparison? I'll probably get more enjoyment out of my Xbox 360 (especially with its great pre-christmas line-up) but there are a few gems on the PS3 horizon that I didn't want to be without."

---------------

"Sony still make consoles?"

---------------

"I have had a PS3 since launch day and am extremely happy with it, but the main thing that annoys me is the price of games. Games released back in March still cost £40-£50 in the shops, so mainly I have been using it to play my PS2 games upscaled in HD. Removing the backwards compatibility altogether is a stupid decision, I can't see the 40GB PS3 selling very well at all.
I am glad I have a 0GB one to play my old games with."

---------------

"Being a single mum AND a student, I'll never have such a daft amount of money to spend on a toy, no matter how much I want it. I didn't get a PS2 till last year anyway so I've got lots to catch up on while waiting for the second hand price to fall. I hope you all feel sorry for me! Sob!"

---------------

"The PS3 is becoming very confusing as there seems to be too many versions of the same console and some of them are having the hardware removed."

---------------

"Soooooo... let's get this right then. Even more crippled than before. Even less connectivity. Even smaller hard drive. No backwards compatibility at all. And Sony expects us to pay the equivalent of $613 for that? This, I might add, is still way more than Americans would shell out for the full connectivity, fully backwards compatible 60GB Premium model and a shade more than the top of the range, 80GB IPTV-toting Premium. Not a chance in all nine circles of hell."

[I'm not sure if that guy knows or not that all consoles/perephrials and games cost a lot more than US. I think he probably does but shouldn't be blaming Sony, unless he was making a point that we get less stuff in our more expensive versions....dunno]

---------------

"LTRFTW. I went out on the day of release to get the 60GB bundle from my local HMV in Cardiff. I was more persuaded to buy now due to the price cut. Despite not that many games coming out I will happily wait for Metal Gear Solid 4 while playing Pro Evolution Soccer and Haze in the months to come."

---------------

"Sorry Sony but this really is a case of "too little, too late". I'll stick with my Xbox 360 thanks!"

---------------

"The PS3 still has no decent games to justify the purchase, no matter what the price. Once there are some the price will probably be less than it is now so then I'll buy one! I still believe in a couple of years it'll be he lead format and then the games will be coming thick 'n' fast."

---------------

"Why is it that everyone but Sony understands the problem with the PS3? There are no games?! It's that simple."

---------------

"Sony are going on about the £100 plus price cut of the PS3 but as they have taken out a game and controller the cut is more like £20. Come on Sony don't treat us like idiots who can't work out the maths."

---------------

"I never bought a PS2 and know i missed a lot of games, so if i ever buy a PS3 it will be backwards compatible. I can't really understand why Sony have made this new version."

lol.....WOW I hope thats how the opinions are for the whole country.

The 60gb will continue to outsell the 40gb in the EU until the stock is depleted. It's a much better value than the 40gb, despite it's higher price point, especially outside of the UK, where the starter pack still includes two controllers instead of one.

Meh, these are just the small number of 360 gamers. Not a big deal to. PS3 is going sell solid like it always does in "others".

The 60GB has been deliberately put at better value to get rid of it, Sony done the math. It's just that we don't know what their long term plan is but it obviously doesn't involve the 60GB and they want it off the shelves.

And most gamers do not post on massageboards.

This thread is the definition of pointless. Any fanboy could post a bunch of hate posts they found on any subject and foolishly gloat about it.

I wouldn't worry about the hdd space as anyone knows you can update that at anytime. ie what is the point of the 80gig. But not everyone knows this. I think ppl will buy the ps3 40g as it's still a ps3 and only a ps3. I see no real issue. I mean when you play ps2 games on the ps3 it's inferior anyway, compared to the ps2 and the emotional engine (pal).

I looked around Harvey Norman (Aust) and asked how well the ps3 40g was going. The guy said selling fast as it is cheaper. I don't know if he is bull shitting me, but it will be interesting to see if it does go well.

I think mainly hardcore players are disappointed as they want the whole package. I'm, sooo glad I got a launch ps3 :D It's kinda rare now. But I gather alot of people who wanted a ps3 but the price was a little hefty, this seems to be in reach now. Esp with Ratchet and Uncharted, it should appeal to more hardcore - med-core players.

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

Of course the people online are going to like the 60 gig better. They're more informed.(mostly)

I do agree that this is kind of pointless. Even a poll would be pointless, if you ask me. Sales numbers speak louder than words, and that's all that matters in this case.

The 60GB model in the UK was previously 425 pounds sterling (also known as a big effing rip off), making the new 350 pound price a 75 pound price drop (about $150), not 50 pounds as you say.
