Forums - Gaming - Project natal PS3 killer? or 360 killer?

It's a 'hardcore' gamer killer but a casual winner.

I think it will sell a ton of x360s because people will want to experience it since it's something they've seen in movies etc. Plus x360 has a good draw on the consumer already, this will just be the tipping point for many.

However, I don't think the games released for it will appeal to many hardcore gamers.

I agree with this.  I love the Wii and the mature titles on it.  The FPS games for it are just cool with IR controls and PS3 owners will see this first hand soon but 360 users still won't see this with Natal.  And most core gamers fancy a controller (wiimote included or classic) for their gaming.  It will draw a crowd but I think it's late in the game for these with MS or Sony.

Each console made it's choice in the beginning and gamers have seen this already and have made decisions.  PS3 is still pricey and needs extras like the eye toy.  MS just went totally different and went without the controller of any type and this will appeal to more potential buyers I think than a wand that's 3 years after the wiimote.  I would have thought Sony would put major efforts into fully realizing the potential of the eye toy to be more competitive with the Natal.  Wiimote and motion control are already on the market and done nicely, I think.  But Natal is pushing beyond that completely and it's a path that hasn't been realized fully yet.  Sony has the eye toy out there to capture what people are doing.  They should have pushed along that new path too.

On a side note, I still find it funny that MS nor Sony still accept fully that Nintendo is competition; yet they are sure pushing for Nintendo's casual crowd like crazy now.  I always thought of the 3 as competing but from different approaches.  Now soon they will all be in the same arena.  The only difference really will be gamers wanting slick graphics and games and then those like me who just care more for the gaming than the graphics.  This will be interesting to see after everyone has their new toys on the market for sale.

It's just gonna fail. Just like PS3 motion control. Natal looks stupid. And doesn't PS3 motion control need a PS3 Eye?

I was wondering if the original eye was gonna work or if it would have to be a new version of it.

I think MS are going to advertise the hell out of it, but it'll generally be a flop. I doubt either MS or Sony's motion controls are going to do much this late in the gen. Maybe next gen, if they improve on their motion tech enough it might help them, but this gen not so much. Also, MS have promised quite a lot from Natal and I'm not sure that they're going to be able to deliver by next year.

Natal sounds and is very dam interesting what I have heard.

It doesn't matter what it can do..
What it will do.
So future tells.

Errr... are you in the right thread? I'm failing to see the relevance of Wii...

The Natal project had so much love from press and the general public, its hard not to believe it won't be a system mover. I think it will push the 360 over the top and it will dominate the ps3 till the end of this generation.

While I don't think Natal 360 will catch up to the Wii (that is near impossible) it will equal the playing field and possibly make the 360 #1 more often than not.

This is all dependent on the Natal actually working proper like.

In all honesty the PS3 has the same price as the 360 and it is a better deal for all but those who want to play the 360 exclusives. Before the pricecut people whow ere interested in the third party multiplats got a 360. That has changed and Natal really is the thing Microsoft is heavily investing in. I believe that the casual gamers will soon get bored of the Wii and slowly cross over to something. Microsoft is goign to launch Natal really big so in the long run this could bring Microsoft back (from the third place it will soon find itself in (monthly sales-wise)).

Ofcourse if it fails then it's going to hurt Microsoft big time but better this then buying more exclusives for the rest of the generation because that will never give them their own identity (even though it's good for those who own a 360 already). If it fails then Microsoft will probably go back to doing that because they have enough money to on. I'm more worried about Sony, internally the company was a mess before the financial crisis so I don't know how much support the PLaystation devision will get if things go bad with the Wand. They might call it a day and prepare for the PS4, like Microsoft did with the original xbox.
