Presentation

Ok, ready? For starters -- and I'm talking about in the opening movie -- you're going to notice more screen-tearing on the PS3 than on the 360. As Batman brings the Joker into Arkham, the breaks were pretty apparent to me. In the game, the visuals seem to be a bit more detailed on the 360 and packing a richer color. I leapt of a bunch of stuff in each version back-to-back, and Batman's cape seemed just a tad darker and richer on the 360.

Of course, each game has its fair share of texture pop-in, and I'm not saying that the 360 is screen-tearing free. Basically any issue on one version of the game is an issue on the other -- maybe just not to the same degree.

If you go the PS3 route, you're going to need 1.2 GB on your hard drive and three minutes to install it. It's by no means a giant amount of time, but the payoff might not be so great. Although they were at different points I the game, it took 12.4 seconds to load the story mode on the PS3 and 19.4 on the Xbox 360.

After watching both games in action and weighing the seven second load difference, I'd give 360 the edge in this category by a nose.

Content and Control

So, where are the differences? Well, the Xbox 360 D-Pad sucks so weapon selection can be a bit iffy compared to the PS3, but the bigger deal is that if you buy Batman: Arkham Asylum on the PS3, you get eight free Joker challenges. Now, these take place in the same environments as Batman's, but Mr. J won't have the gadgets and cape that make it a bit breezier for the Caped Crusader. This change actually turns the gameplay on its head and makes the challenges something that are unique and fun. If you had to choose one system to go with -- and have an Internet connection at home -- the Joker maps make the PS3 the winner on this front.

Final Verdict
Here's the simple truth, Bat-fans: you can't go wrong with either version of Batman: Arkham Asylum. The controls work well, I felt like the Dark Knight while playing, and there's a ton to do here. Yes, the graphics are sharper on the Xbox 360, but it's not noticeable enough for me to sit here and tell you that it's a deal-breaker. If you have to choose between both versions, I'd go with the PS3 edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

These games are so close that the free downloadable Joker Challenge Maps push the PS3 into the winners circle. The fact is that the free maps are a completely different experience from what you've been doing as the Dark Knight, and that only adds value to the game.

Again, in reality, you can't go wrong, so don't sweat your final decision.

1. PS3

Around the Network

Why are they still doing these comparisons? Obivously the developers try to make two identical versions, but you can never get them exacly the same. On top of that, you could replay the same part again on another occation and find that suddenly version X isn't slightly better then version Y while it was last time you made that screenshot. So these shots say nothing. Comparing two platforms where developers dare to make the differences obvious, that is worth comparing like the HD twins vs the PC or the HD twins vs Wii.

It's understandable that developers don't want to hurt the feelings of 50% of their market by making one of the two HD twins versions less good then the other. Naturally the PS3 has more power so if developers wanted too then in 90% of the comparisons the PS3 version would come out on top. It's a good thing it was the other way around lastgen otherwise PS-fanboys wouldn't stop complaining about how xbox is keeping them back.

Hardly a difference...
