Also: xbox 1 over ps3? Even I know that's wrong. But in terms of contribution to gaming though, I could see it. But my heart says ps3>xbox.

You know why the console warriors love IGN reviews so much, right? While every review site can get sucked in by hype to some degree, IGN really takes it to another level. Just about every hyped exclusive is guaranteed a near-perfect score. In other words, they tell the fans what they want to hear. Those fans rarely care that every other hyped game is also receiving an inflated score; all they care about is that the exclusive they're currently excited about gets a glowing review.

Yeah, there's occasionally an exception to the rule, but in general it holds true. I don't think this is due to some planning on IGN's part, either; it's just a side effect of how they separate the site into console-specific sections, each with its own editorial staff.


That makes a lot of sense actually. I noticed that IGN tends to ubber hype the games that are "big" and then other games that have some faults and no hype get totally blasted...such as Sonic unleashed or alone in the dark.

Is it because of teh CELL or bluray? Xbox only had a Pentium 3 and DVD... Thats pretty pathetic tech if you ask this guy

More like because it has alot more "good" exclusives than the first xbox. Keep in mind, microsoft was just learning the ropes back then. There are several examples where a good portion of exclusives went bad. Kung fu chaos, Azurk(was billed as an xbox poster child along with halo), and tao feng being bright examples.

If you are in to Japanese gaming I fully agree with you. But xbox1 was heaven for action gamers. Not to mention for people that didn't own a solid PC at the time.

Ninja Gaiden, DOA3, Riddick, 2 Doom 3 games, Half Life 2, Halos, PGR, Forza, Jade Empire, Fable, Kotor... Not to mention that multiplats were superior on Xbox compared to other systems and that it did HD (480p or 720p in some games) back in 2001 and that it had an online network in 2003.

I do agree that the library between PS3 and xbox is close and that PS3 will end up with way more memorable titles...but as things stand now...2 of the 3 next gen console are marching to the online/HD tune that xbox1 started.

horrible list regular xbox should not be over the ps3 and the 360 should not be over the ps1 but it deserve to be in the top 10 IMO and sega saturn IMO lol to me it gonna be snes vs ps2 for number 1

WTF IGNorance strikes again!, one of the least relyables consoles ever created ranked above GC, Wii and N64 who the fuck made this list?, N64 is one of the best consoles with some of the best games, it can easily rank above Dreamcast, psx, xbox, xbox360, ps3, and ps2 this... this is MADNESS oh wait.. this is IGN i forgot

When it comes down to it, these lists should be about games. Games. Not innovation. I'm sorry, I don't play the innovation game. I play Super Smash Bros, Gears of War 2, and LittleBigPlanet. Not Innovation 09. The Playstation 1 had a way more complete and superior library than the 360 has now (for its time). It revolutionalized and popularized the RPG genre, as well as opening up the European and worldwide market. Seriously, rated lower than the 360?

IGN messed up big time.
