Is that so? I've tried over 20 different MMOs. I know perfectly what I'm saying. Even WoW is a grindfest, but what's great about WoW is the amount of content you get to use right from the beginning. Multiple starting zones, battleground pvp (which is probably the most fun thing I've seen in any mmo), huge open world to explore, crafting and a few instances. Aion is a completely linear game until max level. I played Aion until lv40. All you can do on this linear path is grind on mobs through extremely boring quests, and you also get some crafting. |
You obviously haven't played 20 different MMOs or else you'd know that a lot of them have offered what WoW has way before it came out. Ragnarok Online, Anarchy Online, Everquest, and Asheron's Call. WoW got huge for 1 main reason IMO, IT IS A BLIZZARD GAME. WoW's depth with even the things you listed is very limited. The Battlegrounds don't hold a candle to most MMO PVP setups. All MMOs for most part have HUGE open worlds. Crafting is MUCH better in a lot of other games. Graphics in WoW are just god awful.
Basically what I'm saying is WoW was great when I was a kid, but now I want something fun.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.
I probably have more ps3 games than you :/
maple story is like the best mmo out there. at least in asia.
mmo like aion are a hit in asia.

I don't want to give AION a try, might suck me in and that was a bad thing last it happened with Ragnarok Online.

I already knew everything you mentioned in the first part. After all you're just person #100,000 who already said that exact same thing. I understand WoW hating stereotype is quite popular these days. WoW maybe didn't invent anything new, but it sure packs a lot of great content at once even though that content is from the older games. And it does it even better than those games. The rest is just your opinion on which I don't agree with you.

Actually that's quite false. Very few games had the accessability tht WoW had. I won't even go into quests. WoW was the first to have such a huge number of quests that basiclly levelled you, and eve when you did so there were thousands more. Not to mention they were actually interesting with some pretty cool stuff. No MMO had such a thing before and quest systems in curent MMOs are still too weak to stand up to WoW's quests. They give you a reason to play other than "just for the fuck of levelling."

I'm completely with you on the WoW being accessible and successful because it was so accessible because of things like quests, but the quests are interesting?
Come on, there's no need to blow smoke up peoples asses. We all know the quests aren't interesting and we all know you're still playing just for the fuck of leveling or getting better gear.
And on topic, just about everyone I know in the beta or whatever they're on for Aion says it's poo. Pretty, but poo.

Granted the 1-60 weren't as amazing but the more recent ones are downright amazing. Did you start a DK? Those first 3 lvels or so have to be some of the most fun quests I've seen in any game, not just MMOs. In fact, I haven't touched my DK since, because I've done the other quests many times over. The Northrend quests are almost as good as the D ones and some jus outright shine. My only regret for hitting 80 so quickly was that I had so many other quests to go through which would only reward me with next to nothing of what I had. Still did them though.
On topic, Same, everyone I know says Aion is very meh "Asian MMO is still asian" as one of my friends puts it. I'm guessing he means endless boring farming for no reason other than to farm. Yes, I equate asian mmos with boredom.

I might give it a try. I will wait for a few reviews and impressions of MMO players here on this site. Spent over 2 years of my life playing WoW and I kind of like having it back, starting a new MMO will probably suck the life back out of me.
