Forums - Sales - PS3 most certainly undertracked.

MikeB said:

Yes, the PS3 sold out completely in my area before the PS3 slim launched.

IMO sadly VGChartz has a habbit of overtracking the XBox 360 and undertracking the PS3 on a global scale (this since the beginning). Overtracking and undertracking fluctuate with regard to Japan/US, but for the rest of the world the 360 is usually well overtracked and the PS3 significantly undertracked.

If you add up the numbers VGChartz often claims there are way more PS3s on the shelves at retail than there are 360s on the shelves. This while PS3 (fat) boxes are way bigger and thus that would mean retail dedicating a whole lot more space to the PS3 than to the 360.

But in reality in my country you usually see there are well more 360s left in stock and they are selling slower with various different models. The lowest entry pricing units sell faster than the elite, the 360 is always in stock around here. But I have seen holiday units (119 Euro incl. 19% taxes and with free games) which still weren't sold many months later (they had a sticker covering up the holiday pricing).

Mike B you have the most ridiculous opinions and always pass it off as being fact. So Mike B says all PS3s have been sold out everywhere in his small town then this means PS3 has been sold out everywhere worldwide and the PS3 numbers must be undertracked. 360 must be overtracked worldwide. Because Mike B says so.

Provide some real evidence to support these ridiculous claims. You have not justified anything yet. So your opinion is correct? The dedicated expert sales analysts who run this site must be wrong?  The available tracking sites including GfK, NPD, Media Create, Famitsu are pretty close to VGChartz sales numbers. All the world's tracking sites must be wrong? Litle Mike B from Holland must be right?

Real evidence points to the contrary that PS3 and 360 sales numbers on VGChartz are close to the real sales number. Even ioi himself has shot you down Mike B.

But it is ok Mike B is drunk again and all can be forgiven.

@ ioi

If we consistently overtrack 360 and undertrack PS3 how come we're not 2m too high on 360 and 2m too low on PS3? What a stupid statement to make

You are forgetting the numerous corrections from the past.

Still I think you are wrong, IMO the 360 was far more in stock during Microsoft's and Sony's fiscal year reporting. Soon it may not be the case anymore as the PS3 slim boxes are smaller to store.

IMO actually means "In My Opinion".

I don't think too highly of opinions of various VGChartz members, but I don't find the need to single anyone out or become offensive.

@ ioi

Well, I think you made some correction based on some of my past contributions.

I only contribute to help make VGChartz more accurate. As I said, globally I think you have been undertracking the PS3, US and Japan fluctuate more.

I advised you in the past to lower reported figures for the US (North America) or Japan if there are signs of the PS3 being overtracked there. We can then ponder on where the global gap originates from.

IMO there's no need to become offensive or do you think I am being offensive? I more look at it as constructive criticism.

I'm not forgetting them, I made them. The last "correction" that was made saw PS3 go down and Xbox360 up so explain that one.

Still you think I'm wrong?! To be honest I don't really care what you think - you have no facts to backup any of your claims, you just come in here and spout the same old rubbish every few months. You are proven wrong time and time again and yet still continue with the same crusade. How do you account for the fact that according to the link I provided a few posts back we're actually around 2 million consoles higher on PS3 vs other tracking services? Personally I believe it to be a mistake in the report but who knows, fact is that it's pretty pathetic for you to keep coming here (same with the OP) and claim that figures are being ignored or that there is some kind of conspiracy. The only goal of VGChartz is to report the facts as neutrally and accurately as possible - I personally couldn't care less which console is "winning" so stop with the fanboy drivel please.

ioi, you are arguing with a troll. You can't win.

Everybody knows MikeB is mostly talking some stuff out of his a** without any kind of proof, links or whatever.
He is like shio for the PS3.

Now he claims the adjustments you made, happened because of his contributions. :D

But don't worry here is a list of "sources" MikeB does not trust:

  • VGC
  • Media Create
  • Microsoft Corp.
  • GFK

---

VGC does NOT undertrack the 360.

MS stated they sold 31.4 million consoles till June 09. We do not know if they mean 1st of June 09 or 30th of June 09. Let's assume end of June: VGC tracked the 360 at 30.6 million, this means 800k consoles @ retail.

So if MS meant 1st of June, there would be like 1.2 million consoles at store, which would be way too much.

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 03rd Nov 2002 to 01st Aug 2009:

Console PS3
Total

23,085,035

Reported sales shipped to warehouses = 23,800,000

Number of units sitting on shelves, in retailer warehouses or backrooms or in trucks somewhere in between = 714,965

Number of units expected to be on shelves at any one point = 600,000 - 1,000,000

Therefore VGChartz = Win

Wow.......hey MikeB, when the Site owner takes time out of his busy day to personally put you on blast, you may be doing something VERY WRONG.

In over 3 years of being on this site, and 2 years of being a member I dont think I have ever seen ioi need to take the time to respond to an individuals personal Fanboy comments.

This is a sad day.

@ ioi, keep up the good work, dont let the Fanboyism get to ya.

Nah, wouldn't it be boring if we all be and act the same, like little sheep? We discussed before and he had hefty disagreements at other websites, like me. Nothing to get upset about.

If you make a bold claim then you better damn well back it up with solid research or you are nothing more than a loudmouth jackass.

People like MikeB are too lazy or afraid to do factual unbiased research which is why rational people get upset when they spout their nonsense. Cherry picking and useless opinions do not make the site more accurate.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Always same shit. SDF strikes back.

NO!
