Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I find it funny that people in this thread seem to think, that Sony didn't ship any new PS3 phats since end of June.

Of course, retailers have certainly bought more PS3 fat units from Sony since last fiscal quarter's report.

PS3 vs 360 sales

@ Neos

I still see several Fat ps3's at my local stores. Don't believe MikeB.

You live in my city? Which super market do you work for, maybe I know you?

Media Markt certainly sold out.

No that's not how i mean it. When you say something..like i don't see fat ps3's around in my town, you mean it like they cannot be found anywhere else in the country (or countries). I just wanted to say it atleast isn't true here (Enschede), because i still see several stores, like Bartsmit and E-plaza, with some fat ps3's left. my best friend also works at some gamestore, and they still have 3 left. It's not much i know, but if you count that worldwide for every store, it still adds up to a respectable figure. But i don't know for sure, you don't, and actually no one can know for sure. So this is just guessing..

I don't frequent toystores, there may be some units left there. But my nearest PS3 sales point is Media Markt in Groningen. They sold out before September and likewise did a few other stores.

Yes, the PS3 sold out completely in my area before the PS3 slim launched.

IMO sadly VGChartz has a habbit of overtracking the XBox 360 and undertracking the PS3 on a global scale (this since the beginning). Overtracking and undertracking fluctuate with regard to Japan/US, but for the rest of the world the 360 is usually well overtracked and the PS3 significantly undertracked.

If you add up the numbers VGChartz often claims there are way more PS3s on the shelves at retail than there are 360s on the shelves. This while PS3 (fat) boxes are way bigger and thus that would mean retail dedicating a whole lot more space to the PS3 than to the 360.

But in reality in my country you usually see there are well more 360s left in stock and they are selling slower with various different models. The lowest entry pricing units sell faster than the elite, the 360 is always in stock around here. But I have seen holiday units (119 Euro incl. 19% taxes and with free games) which still weren't sold many months later (they had a sticker covering up the holiday pricing).

Ah, yes. The classic "But... But... it's sold out in my area!

Also, your logic about retail space is flawed; what if the 360 had more space than PS3 but was being sold at a higher rate? Oh, right, it is [being sold at a higher rate].

The BuShA owns all!

@ kowenicki

Why you put words in my mouth? Or do you have trouble reading?

And Media Markt megastores aren't supermarkets.

There is a possibility you are right for a small amount (at least as far as I understand the supply chain, which is just my speculation, albeit well informed)

Sony likely did not ship any further PS3s after the last quarter ended though, so until the slim starts being sold (which VGC data does not include yet) there will only be 23.8 million stock.... but we have no idea where that stock is hiding... the only thing we know is that Sony no longer owns them.

500k however is NOT what the stock is at the end of that time because we still need the next week of data (week ending 29th) which includes the price reduction but not any significant slim sales.
So the remaining stock will be more like 350-400k.

if you will take a look back in time... when the Wii was "out of stock" everywhere... to a considerable more significant amount than the PS3 was last week (ie you could NOT find a Wii anywhere.. wheras PS3s are simple to find if you search now)

Even back then the Wii stock was still 100-200k or so going by Nintendos fiscal reports (the same kind of data as the Sony 23.8 million).... so for the PS3 to have 400k of stock when it is in short supply (rather than no supply) is a believeable number to me.

Wii stock according to VGC:

March 31st 2007 - 110k
June 30th 2007 - 410k
Sept 30th 2007 - 1,020k (this was more likely retailers holding onto shipments though... although 1 million is still not adequate [sp?] Wii stock at that time)
