Forums - Sony - Sony brings 3D Home in 2010

Wow.

Now, Sony is going to want to gain from having the "first mover" status in a significant way through royalties.

And, if it isn't obvious, 3D will push Blu-ray which is another source of royalties, b/c Sony gets royalties every time a BD disc is purchased.

BAM!

Maybe I should have made the title "Sony brings 3D home in 2010" instead.

No they dont. The BDA does. What you just said woud make as much sense as saying Sony and Phillips get royalties for every CD sold.

Opens up possibilities for the full body motion control experience. One step closer to virtual reality gaming.

What a step back. What happened to 4D?

4D = time.... Sony can't control time. It would be scary if they could. But inorder to control time, they need to control the 5th and 6th dimensions.

Sony figured out people don't care if grass grows or metal rusts in the rain.

No...the BDA is a broad consortium of industry groups composed of everything from retailers, to makers of HDTVs, to companies serviceing Blu-ray, etc.

Sony on the other hand, is the only company that gets royalties  form *disc* sales.  Now, phillips and samsung get most of the royalties from Blu ray player sales but that is a separate matter.   Do you think that Sony would create the whole Blu ray thing if it doesn't directly benefit from its implementation?  That Sony put an expensive blu-ray drive on the PS3 just to give itself a bigger challenge?  apparantly so.
