No...the BDA is a broad consortium of industry groups composed of everything from retailers, to makers of HDTVs, to companies serviceing Blu-ray, etc.
Sony on the other hand, is the only company that gets royalties form *disc* sales. Now, phillips and samsung get most of the royalties from Blu ray player sales but that is a separate matter. Do you think that Sony would create the whole Blu ray thing if it doesn't directly benefit from its implementation? That Sony put an expensive blu-ray drive on the PS3 just to give itself a bigger challenge? apparantly so.
