Forums - Microsoft - 360 sales up 43% in UK!

Week-on-week sales increase as a result of price drop and bank-holiday weekend.

GfK ChartTrack has told MCV that the Xbox 360 saw a week-on-week sales increase of 43 per cent in the UK. The sales boost is thanks to a combination of the £30 price reduction on the Elite and a UK bank holiday weekend.

ChartTrack also added that the UK should not expect a serious and consistent upturn in weekly hardware sales until October.

While the Xbox 360 enjoyed a late summer surge, sales of Sony's PS3 fell 20 per cent ahead of today's launch of the new PS3 Slim - a large sales boost is expected as a result of the launch.

But I thought the Xbox 360 would just stop selling with the release of the PS3 Slim.

HD Gaming coming in!

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Are these results post slim release in the UK? If so, this kind of blows my mind. I think I've been drinking the "PS3 Slim will pwn all" kool-aid lately. I thought the UK was relatively hostile to the 360?

PS3 Just hit today in UK and Ireland. Expect the increase this week.

We have to wait the actual release of the PS3 Slim to find that out.  Once it is out and has been tracked for a week, we shall know.

I was being just slightly sarcastic.

What, that isn't true?  I thought the universe centered around the PS3 and everything Sony did.  The entire world was waiting for Sony to do the right things, before they decided what they are going to do.

Now excuse me.  I need a towel to dry off.  I hate dripping in sarcasm.

This spike in 360 sales is kinda like how a chicken will run around for a few minutes after its head is cut off.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
