Forums - Sales - Killzone 2 SALES are Very Disappointing (Just Realized)

It appears internet hype and actual sales performance are inversely proportional to each other.

Watch out Slim, your days are numbered!

Call it the "Ron Paul Effect" (same with "Snakes on a Plane").  The Internet distorts and makes things hyped appear MUCH larger than they are.  Ron Paul won almost all Internet poll, and didn't do much in the primaries in the United States.

this just proves that shooters dont do well on the PS3 compared to the 360 why they focused on this overrated genre is beyond me

It seems like Sony has a presumptive belief it was going to have the top console, so they seemed to go out of their way to target the stronghold of Microsoft, and neglect its strengths from the past.  Microsoft held serve on FPS, and other niches, and went after RPG.  Go figure.

PS3 doesn't sell exclusives well, thats why Gt5 wont sell not nearly as well.

nik - so they claim the game was in development for 5 years... riiiiight... I'd love to see the numbers of how it went from 45 employees to more than they currently have employed now a year before they had 45 employees...

Easy.. 45 for the CG trailer for the E3.. real development 140 people.. last year of development 200... but he is the Director of GG.. but what does he know? And it's still 4 years...  he is  saying 140 people in 4 years.. that's his minimum people.. and in the last year it went up to 200..

Also when Sony bought GG from Media Republic they already had 100 people working there..
from the blog of Media Republic: http://www.molblog.nl/bericht/Media-Republic-verkoopt-Guerrilla-Games-aan-Sony/

"All 100 people from GG are transfered to Sony..."

And the bump from 140 to 200 people were extra people helping out.. most in the art department.. I'm a graphic designer and friends of mine have worked on KZ2 for a year..

So they went from 100 to 140 instantlythe second Sony bought them and they have less employees than that. Got it.

It's true, for some reason even though they have a decent market share now the actual owners dont seem to care about exclusives.

People simply do not care about whether a game is exclusive or not, they care if the game appeals to them. Killzone 2 did not.

Look there, it's the exclusives Sony put on the PS2. None of them sold amazingly well except Gran Turismo (ignore the Sq RPG's). Sony just doesn't have any other IP that can push huge numbers (over 4mil).

GT5 will do fine.

What games has Sony actually tried to make a fast selling franchise? They tend to like making a trilogy then creating something new.

Given what its install base is, who they are, and the other FPS games already out there I think it did quite well. CoD:4/WaW is _it_ right now for MP. Unfortunately KZ2 just was not the game to take the crown.
